Wallpaper Whoops, Need Advice!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. I spent some time replacing a light fixture in the master bath only to find there was -zero- wallpaper behind it. Since the new light fixture is completely different I had to do a 3 feet by 4 inch "patch job" with some spare wallpaper I found in the attic. To make a long story short, the patterns don't line up and the "seams" stick out like a sore thumb. I've never done this before and it looks hideous. Any ideas? I'm willing to pay someone to help me fix this woops...I have plenty of wallpaper.

Thanks moms.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ya'll are too sweet! I took one of your ideas and ended up using satin & lace type fabric that has an adhesive backing to hide the seams. I wish I could attach a photo, it looks so much better. Thank you so much for all of your ideas. E. : )

You can always find stickers that are very decorative like those that you put on tile to spruce it up and put it in a pattern over the whoops

Honestly, I'd get rid of the wall paper on that wall... then texture it and paint it. You don't have to tear all the paper down, just the one wall.

Another thing I've seen is like a large wooden frame that encompases the mirror, wall and light fixture. Hard to explain but my neighbor did it and it looks fantastic.

It was kind of like this http://www.thefurniture.com/store/Images/Fairmont/VillaVe...

but it took over the entire wall/mirror and the light fixture came over or out of the top... hope that makes sense.

Good luck.

In order to not have the patch show, you need to be exact. Hold up the roll and find where the pattern matches EXACTLY. Once you've figured out where the patch should come from, cut it out a little larger than the area you are trying to patch. You may have to cut your patch out of the middle of the wallpaper. Hold it up to the area DRY to make sure it fits exactly (some patterns are easier to match than others). When you get an exact match, wet the patch (roll up and place entire piece in water for 30-60 seconds), remove from water, unroll, fold in half (pattern side out), and let it sit for about a minute (to activate the paste). While the patch is resting, take a wet sponge and wet the edges of the wallpaper around the patch area (wet enough that it can be pulled away from the wall. Hang the patch, being sure to line up EXACTLY. Use an exacto knife and cut around the patch (this will cut the paper BEHIND the patch). Pull the edges of the patch back and remove the old wallpaper that you just cut loose. Spread some white glue around the edges of the patch and press it back into place. Use a wallpaper roller and roll the edges. If any of the edges or seams come loose, dampen the paper, stick some glue under the edge and press (or roll) it back into place.

Depending on the paper, pattern, and the amount of care you put into it, it may or may not be visible, but it shouldn't be obvious. Good luck!

Instead of patching the wallpaper, consider picking up the woods in your bathroom and make a decorative base for the new light fixture or even a decorative shelf on which to display items. Good luck!!
