Hi Moms,
My 'green guilt' is getting the best of me. I'm looking for an alternative to plastic disposable diapers, but don't want to go the cloth diaper service route. I don't want to buy off the internet, and don't want to spend a fortune. Plus, I want to be able to get the diapers in the Jenison area. I heard about a flushable type of diaper?? Give me the 411, mamas!!

What can I do next?

Hey,
They have diapers called gDiapers. You can get them at harvest Health food store(in Hudsonville). They also have another brand seventh generation....those are like regular disposibles. The gDiapers are cool. I personally don't use them. I have heard about them. Alot of people really like them. The outside you wash yourself and the insert you flush. I have heard it can stop up your septic tank though. You could probably go to there website and find out more on them. I think it is www.gdiapers.com. I hope that helps some.
I use bumGenius diapers. They are awesome. They are called pocket diapers and they go from 8lbs-35lbs. They works great. I know you didn't want to buy online buy they are so worth. You don't have to buy diapers. You can check them out at www.cottonbabies.com.

G diapers have flushable inserts, but are water proof cloth on the outside. I have actually heard really good things about them. They are a little more work then your traditional disposable, but being green isn't neccesarily easy, because our society is all about convienence. You can go to gdiapers.com and they have videos on how they work, ect. Good luck!!

I have done cloth and have three children. (14 weeks, 2 years and 4 years.) It's just as fast and easy...honestly! A once a day poop, right? So once a day you have to shake out some poo poo in the toilet and flush it. I have a pail~that locks~ with water in it instead of a diaper genie. I add a little soap to it. While you are doing your laundry you put on some gloves, gently wring out the diapers and throw 'em into the washer on hot. Then you just dump the water into the toilet. It's so not as bad as people think. www.greenmountaindiapers.com

g diapers are the flushable ones. but they are pricey. my husband and i would absolutely love to use them, because of the reviews on how great they are for the environment, but we can't afford the cost at this time in our lives. and we haven't braved going down the whole cloth/cloth service route either. so we are using the disposable, for cost sake, but hating the idea of what is doing to landfills. we hope and pray that one day the eco-friendly stuff will come down in price. if you want to check these out, you can find them at the natural food store in hudsonville. good luck!
