I have washed my son's baseball caps in the dishwasher and they came out just fine! I put them on the top rack and used the regualar dish soap that I always use in the dishwasher.
Someone told me it was possible to wash baseball hats in the dishwasher on the top rack. I remember they said to wash on cold/no dry cycle.
Has anyone done this? Does it work? Does it damage the hats? What kind of detergent did you use or did you use detergent?
Or
Does anyone have suggestions for washing baseball style hats?
Thanks!
Thanks everyone! I washed the baseball caps in the dishwasher (top rack, quick wash) and put a bowl inside the hat to help keep the shape. I decided to not risk the detergent bleaching out the hat so just a thorough cold water wash. It worked great - clean hats - still look like new.

Top shelf dishwasher absolutely works!
I toss them in the washer with a load of matching clothes, then pull them out, reshape and air-dry. It works great. Just wash on cold and make sure you don't put them in the dryer.
I've washed ours in the dishwasher, with diswasher soap!! Just put in on the quick cycle and let it air dry outside if you can.
It works great.. no gadgets needed. You can place a cup or mug on the top rack and then the cap on top.. No Heat dry and use cold wash..
I have done this for years.
My husband has one of these http://www.organizeit.com/cap-washer.asp
and we put it in the washing machine :) We have never had a problem.
I started washing ball caps in the washing machine when I was in the USMC. Our covers are pretty similar to ball caps, and they get nasty. You throw them in the wash, then the dryer, iron (the covers, not the caps), spray the bill with starch, and rubber band them to the starch can.
Ballcaps are even easier. Wash. Dry. Starch bill IF it's in any way out of shape. Rubber band can to ball cap. OR just wash and rubber band to starch can and air dry (not useful here, it's too damp/humid out for clothes to air dry without becoming icky except a couple weeks a year).
To use the dishwasher it would have to be empty (or tiny particles of food/oil would impregnate the fabric of the cap). Seems like a waste. Unless you have a lot of caps!
I have done that before! they even make plastic frames to help them keep their shape. I believe I just used the dish detergent. I mean I wouldn't use one with a rinse aid in it or anything, but it never damaged any of the ones I've washed that way.
They make a devise so you can throw them in the washer.
I just did an online search & found one on Amazon.

They have baseball hat holders that you put the hat in and wash in the washing machine and then put in the dryer. I used them on my ex husbands hats and they worked just fine. I got them at Walmart, I have also see them in Jewels and other stores that sell laundry items.
I've never bought O. of those cage hickeys. You don't really need to.
My husband washes his & our sons hats in a bucket of soapy Tide water, rinses well and hangs them from a pants hanger clip by the bill to drip dry. They turn out fine!
Amazing the dirt that actually gets ON a baseball hat, isn't it?
Yes you can wash the hats in the dishwasher. There are actually "hat frames" that you can purchase for use in the dishwasher, (probably at Walmart or Bed Bath and Beyond) but if you want to, you could turn the hat over an empty plastic container that will fit the hat, maybe an empty cool whip or butter carton. I just put it in with the dishes, on the top rack and used the regular cycle, they did not fade. But if using a carton, they can be slightly mis-shaped unless you make some adjustments and make them fit the container.
Never heard of that but don't use any detergent that suds a lot. Which is pretty much everything other than dishwasher detergent.
Why don't you just get one of the cage things, they sell them everywhere like Wal Mart and the like, and just toss it in the wash?
They make a plastic form for washing hats in the dishwasher. You stick the hat on the plastic thing and it helps the hat keep its shape. Then you put the hat on the top rack of the dishwasher! I would wash it without the heated dry, because that can make the hat shrink and warp.
My mom used to wash my brother's hats in the dishwasher with the plastic thing. Some of them turned out really nice, others got warped. If the hat is really dirty, I guess you have to take your chances!
My step mom used to wash my dads hats in the dishwasher- I think she just used a little dish soap
