Water Aerobics

Ladies... I'm looking for a water aerobics class in the Frisco area, if possible, for women only. I would prefer one where most of the women are at least my age (50+). I certainly would not mind being the youngest person in the class. I am a competent swimmer but have fibromyalgia & a lot of weight to lose. I was very active when I was younger & I'd like to get back to feeling good again. I go to our community pool when it's not crowded during the warm-weather season & do water-walking but obviously it isn't an option right now.

I need to be in warm water & in an environment where I'm not terribly self-conscious. It's difficult to find effective non-water-related exercise when it takes me 2-3 days to recover from a long grocery shopping trip because the pain in my hips, legs, knees, ankles, & feet is so bad. I know that taking the weight off will greatly help my fibromyalgia pain, not to mention improving the rest of my health, & that's my goal. Once I lose some of the weight, then I think doing things like walking, cycling, & eliptical won't take so long to recover from.

What can I do next?

Def check out the Frisco Athletic Center. My mom has had a lot of health issues fibromyalgia included and water therapy has helped her tremendously so you may want to check with your doctor as well to see if this is something they can prescribe for you and have it payed by insurance. Best of luck, hope you're pain-free soon!

D., the Frisco Athletic Center offers some excellent water aerobic classes in their indoor heated pools. One of the classes is a low-impact in the smaller, warmer pool, and another is a little more active in the large pool, which is also heated, just not quite as warm. I am your age, and have taken both. I was one of the youngests in the low impact class, but was in the middle of the age groups of the other class. The classes are free for Athletic Center members, and memberships are quite reasonable for Frisco residents. The facilities upstairs, with ellipticals, treadmills, stationary bikes, weight machines, etc. is also very nice. Check it out!
