The other option is calling a company and letting then maintain your yard. Scott's lawn service. Turner Pest Control (does pest control, lawn and termites~and I work there), Truegreen, etc. Call around and get someone to come out and do a comp. lawn evaluation. Maybe they will tell you what you can use if the price it too high??? Just a thought. Also ask at Lowes/Home Depot they should know what you can use.

We started this just this year. Vinegar seems to do the trick and is non chemically dangerous to us or the environment. I was surprised at how easy this was.

An "organic" solution for weeds is to use 20% vinegar on them. You can get this at a garden store that sells organic products. The best way to fight weeds is to prevent them (too late now, as I was lazy this year and learned!) by using a "pre-emergent" which keeps the seed from germinating. An organic pre-emergent is corn gluten meal which is available in the same place you get the horticultural vinegar.

When spraying either vinegar or roundup, be sure to do it on a sunny day (important for the product to work) with minimal wind. YOu don't want either chemical on your skin or in your clothes (stinky, etc) and wash your hands and face after you apply them.

I do this every year. Once the weeds start to come out I go out with my trusty bottle of round up and hit the weeds. I do this before the grass really starts to grow and the weeds are so easy to spot. I make sure that we are in a dry spell for a few days to make sure the rain won't wash the round up away. Works like a charm and is easy to do.
Best Regards,
C.
