I want to plan a weekend away for my husbands birthday in November. Initially I planned on Niagara Falls. Which I still really want to do but I have to get an enhanced drivers license now (never changed my passport to married name). It wouldn't be a problem except it's possible that my FIL will have to work that weekend. Which is something else that upsets me. Back in July I asked him if he would be able to watch the kids that weekend so I could take my hubby away. I told him to talk to his wife and let me know. They watch her daughter's kids all the time and have had them for the weekend many many times a year for the last 7 years. This is the first time I've ever asked. They were happy to say yes. My FIL is retired. Well, I guess I should say "was" retired since he just got a part time job working at Sam's club. So the other day he posts on my FB wall that he doesn't know if he'll be able to watch the girls because he works weekends now (as of the middle of last week!!) but he will let me know as soon as possible. My parents are deceased and I don't have anyone on my side that I would trust to watch the kids for the weekend. My MIL is ready for a whole weekend with 2 kids. I believe my oldest stayed overnight with her once but I am not positive on that, she wouldn't have been more than 2 if she has. She is a smoker and has a testy dog so I'm not too keen on the idea of the kids staying there, even if she offered. So, to get to my point... I don't want to spend the money on the enhanced DL if I might have to cancel the whole weekend.
So any ideas of romantic places to go? Seems like I remember a place in PA from long ago but I can't remember. TIA!!
P.S. I had to delete the FB post because it was supposed to be a surprise, I hope the hubby didn't see it!!
I was going to suggest Tobermorray but that is also in Canada. How about South Haven? Rentals are cheap right now. North beach is nice there and it is close to Sagatauk for the quaint shops.
I have to add Shipshewanna (sp?), Indiana. Small town feel, quaint shops and a lot of Amish. You can even go for a buggy ride with an authentic Amish man. I believe they may even have farm tours.
Chicago--if you come late in November the whole downtown will be lit up with Christmas lights.
I say still go to Niagara. My fiance and I celebrated our engagement with an overnight trip and aide from a snafu with the hotel being overbooked, and not getting the full details of our "Romance" package right, it was a wonderful weekend. See if your father in law can watch the kids for 1 night instead of 2. It's your trip away, have it, even if it means a shorter trip. we're all going to need those enhanced drivers licenses soon enough... At least, thats what I'm thinking.
How about Chicago? Lots and lots to do there! If you want to stay in Michigan, I would suggest Traverse City or Frankenmuth. Have fun!
Chicago or somewhere still in MI (Saugatuck, Traverse City, Mackinaw Island)
Go to Frankenmuth! Or Mackinaw.
