Weight Loss - Bethlehem,PA

I was wondering if anyone has tried Alli and what their experience was with it.
I have about 15 more pounds to lose and thought of trying it. I have modified my diet and do
exercise but seemed to have hit a wall lately. I thought using this might help jump-start the loss again.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of the advice. I'm typically not one to turn to medication for a quick fix but I guess I was getting discouraged. My hours were increased at work which led to a lot less time to get to the gym.
I did make a few changes such as not eating after 7 p.m. and exercising every day at home for 1/2 hour.
Hopefully this will help.

I haven't tried it, but my father did. Basically, its a pill that tricks you into ONLY eating healthy food or you will be in the bathroom all day long. My dads horror story was he ate some toffee peanuts and had to stay home the following day because he was so sick! Just throwing that out there since you asked. I know it blocks your body from absorbing a good portion of the fat that you eat, so it has to come out some way!

My suggestion is to exercise differently since you've just plateaued. Look into short burst resistance training. I find it works wonders. Well I'm not creative enough to put together a workout routine just because I read how this works so I spend $40 on the Fit Yummy Mummy e book but I can put together new workouts by mixing and matching them to keep it fresh...not to mention there are tons of great workouts already there which only take 15 minutes. I found it worth the money and saw results rather quickly. It's up to you though.

I don't know this, but I do have a healthy plan if you would like to hear about it. Here is a link, and if it interests you I can answer your questions.

Hitting a plateau happens. Don't be discouraged. Pick up your exercise for a couple of weeks. Maybe 10 more minutes a day. Might help you over the hump.

Hi N.. First major kudos and congrats to you for losing whatever you have up to now, and making your health and fitness a priority! Take a moment to recognize and appreciate that for yourself.

Now, let's get down to the business of those last stubborn-mama 15 lbs, that so many of us experience. Know that you are not alone in your struggle, but it CAN be done! I don't know exactly what kind of exercise or diet you are currently doing, so I'm sorry if what I say is repetitive....

The best way to lose weight and be healthy is to eat "clean". Go to http://www.ehow.com/how_###-###-####_eat-clean.html for a great summary of what that means and how to do it. Oxygen magazine often has great eat clean recipes, and Tosca Reno has written several cookbooks for recipe ideas. Once you start to eat clean you will not want to go back. You just feel great! I've been consistently doing it for about two years now and cringe at the thought of eating the way I used to.

As for exercise, the best way to lose weight and stay fit is to combine weight/resistance training with cardio. Depending on how many days a week you have to workout, make a plan and stick to it. For example, if you can exercise four days a week, lift two and do cardio two. The most important thing is to constantly vary your workouts, don't keep doing the same things over and over and expect a different result (some say that is the definition of insanity). One day lift heavy but fewer reps, one day do interval cardio getting your heart rate up to it's max for 30 seconds, and then resting for 1 minute (jump rope, sprint, stairclimber, etc will all work for that). Repeat that cycle for 15 minutes or so, or more if you can. One day do lower weight with higher reps. One day do steady cardio for 30 minutes. One day do circuit training - a couple of resistance exercises, then do 1 minute of a fast, hard cardio burst to get your heart rate up, then go to a couple more resistance exercises, then repeat until you've worked out for 30-45 minutes.

Some good websites for exercise ideas are fitnessmagazine.com, bodybuilding.com (it's not all huge bulky bodybuilder stuff, I promise!),and eatcleandiet.com. And Oxygen magazine is the best fitness publication out there for women. And google, google, google. You can find great workouts and articles online.

There is no pill that can do this for you. It has to be done the old fashioned way, I'm sorry to say. If you are trying to lose the last 15 you have to REALLY push yourself in the gym and really be meticulous about what you are eating. It will happen, I promise!

Good luck to you!!!! You can do it girl!!

Alli will work to block a portion of fat from being absorbed. I believe it is about 25% but don't hold me to that. Fat not being absorbed into your body equals calories not absorbed either.

Now with that being said, it all depends on how much fat you eat still. I know you mentioned that you altered your eating. If you still eat some fat it will help. If you barely eat any, then it may not be worth it. It can be pricey. If you are eating a lot of fatty foods, then you will have the oil spotting a frequent bathroom trips to deal with. Mainly, all the horror stories that you've been hearing. That is mainly from people thinking the pill will do all the work for you. They need to eat a low fat diet, exercise, and the pill can help you lose 50% more weight than you would with just the diet and exercise.

I did take the pill when it first came out and have actually been wanting to restart. I haven't quite reached my goal yet.

So, the Alli is something that you are going to have to thinnk about. And it will have to be based on you and what you eat. But I would definitely change your exercise plan. You need to do more and work harder. The biggest thing is to change it up. Short, high intensity is best. Go from station to station.

Now, if only I could follow my own advice. LOL! Good Luck!

I use these products faithfully because they work. Try this website www.slimdownwithrobin.com

I usually don't promote products but when you come across something good that is good for you, you should tell the good news.

Add this to your regimen and you will love the results. Continue to keep up the good work.

I would say to take a look at your diet. Do you eat fatty foods(fried food esp.)? If you think that this is what is keeping you from losing weight than yes-Alli might help. From what I understand it keeps a good portion of the fat from being used. I eat pretty much no fats other than healthy ones so it wouldn't help me to go on it. If you are not losing weight because of portion control (my problem) but your diet is pretty healthy then I wouldn't take Alli. If you eat too much sugar-same thing. Work on that cause Alli won't help. Not an expert though so check with your Doc. Also-those last pounds are the hardest to lose.

Hi N.,

I'm with you also. Hit a plateau in weight loss and will try new set of exercises.

As for Alli, I'm like Katie. I didn't try it myself but friends had some gore stories about it. Like spending hours in the bathroom or having to wear pads because of "oil" discharges even though they limited their fat intake as much as possibly could.

Anyway, I'm not sure I would recommend a pill to loose weight.
