This response has nothing to due with weight loss, but a huge kudos to you for being a donor! More people should be donors!

God bless you, this is a wonderful thing you are doing for your husband! You have already given him 4 boys and now to give your kidney! WOW...Now, that is love!

I am not sure how you eating habits really are. Are you getting enough calories? My biggest issue with weight loss, until recently, was not eating enough. I would not eat fried foods, I would not touch candy or sweets, I ate mostly veggies. This turned out to be a HUGE problem for me since it made my metabolism basically shut down and then everything I ate would get stored for later since I was basically starving myself, although I was never hungry since I would fill up on green beans, cauliflower, broccoli, water, teas, tomato sandwiches etc.... I would eat a lot but just not smart choices even if they were healthy!

I joined Weight Watchers and within 3 months I lost 30 pounds and ate 2-3 times more food than I have ever eaten before! This is where I found out about my metabolism and my bodys defense mechanism for what I was doing. I would check them out if I was you, it is the healthy and easiest way to do it that I know of. You want to make sure you are being super careful about taking meds to lose weight since those can actually cause more damage and then you may not be able to help your hubby! If you do WW, I would stick with the points plan since that is the easiest to follow and is basically a no fail plan. On average you should lose 1-2 pounds a week.

You might also want to talk to your Dr to see if he has any healthy ways for you to lose weight. Ohhhhh.... what about that 3 day diet that helps you to lose like 10 pounds from the American Heart Association. I am not sure if it is even still around but I am sure someone on here will have the diet plan. If you follow it exactly it does work.... just know that it does come back! But it would be a quick fix and not unhealthy either!

Good luck to you and your family! I will keep you in my prayers for all to go well and to have fast recoveries! Many blessings to you and yours!

What an amazing thing you are doing! You are on the right track. What you need to do is figure out how many calories you are eating a day. You never want to eat less than 1200 calories. If you are currently eating 2500 calories a day and drop to 1800-2000 calories and continue exercising for 45 min a day, you will drop the weight fast. Make sure you aren't eating a lot processed foods. Stick to fruit, veggies and lean meat. Try eating a huge salad (with very little dressing) at dinner first and then eat the other foods. I am a huge potato fan, but they really pack on the pounds. Eating a potato is like eating a cup of sugar, that's the way your body will metabolize it. So try eliminating them from your diet. I would also limit your juice intake and just drink water. The Tae Bo is great. I have been using Jillian Michaels (the biggest loser trainer) 30 day shred DVD and I lost 10 pounds in three weeks. You can absolutely do this! Good luck with everything and let us know what how it all works out. My prayers are with you and your family!

how lucky that you are a match!! And talk about motivation to lose weight!

My best friend had a kidney transplant 3 years ago, my foster sister was the donor.

I would advise cutting out all drinks except water. This will be a lot of calories you are getting rid of and easily. I bet that with the exercise may be enough to drop those pounds.

I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and have lost almost 7 lbs in about 2 weeks.
The thing that I am doing is carb counting.
45 carbs for breakfast lunch and dinner. If need be, a snack between at 15 or less carbs.
I am also making sure that there is at least 4-5 hours between meals.
You can check out the diabetes web site. www.diabetes.org and check out some of the recipes.
As for eating out, if you have pizza eat one piece with the crust then just the cheese and toppings. (i know it's hard)
If you have burgers, don't eat the bread.
Try to cut out white. No white rice, bread, sugar or pasta.

You are doing great with the exercise and water.
If you have any other questions feel free to email me.

Good luck to you and your husband in February!

Have you discussed this with your doctor? Have you been to see a nutritionist? I would definitely go that route. A nutritionist can give you a very specific eating plan that will help you get to your goal weight. The exercise will be an added bonus.

My vote is to have a registered dietitian or a clinical nutritionist assist you in healthy eating habits. You will be giving another human being one of your organs, so this is not a time to mess around with fad diets, wacky gimmicks, or dangerous calorie cutting. Keep up the GREAT work with the daily cardio.

And, bless you for your selfless sacrifice!
