What Are the Odds She'll Get Sick To?

So my 2 1/2 yr old daughter and I are both sick with a cold =( and Im not sure if I got it and gave it to her or vice versa or even if we happened to pick it up at the same time. I also have a 3 1/2 month old baby girl that - knock on wood- so far seems okay but Im worried that she is going to get sick too. She is exclusively breastfed and Ive heard that helps to provide her with antibodies but will these antibodies protect her from a cold that isnt necessarily passed onto her by me - I mean if it happens to be my daughter that covers her in 'boogies' and gets her sick will my breastmilk still protect her?
I know that if she gets it we will just have to deal but I just feel so bad for such a little baby that cant sleep in any other way than their back and she cant tell me if she needs something
Thanks in advance

What can I do next?

Most likely, you and your daughter are sick with the same virus. So the antibodies in your breastmilk should help protect her regardless of whether she is exposed to the virus from either you or your older daughter.

However, breastmilk is no guarantee, and your best bet is washing hands alot, expecially when you sneeze or cough (and sneeze and cough into your elbow, not your hand, if you can't wash your hands immediately after you cough/sneeze).

Hope she stays well!

Tons of hand washing and Purell! I do remember being sick and breastfeeding and the baby not getting sick. The trick is to keep the 2-year-old away. If you are good and quick with the Clorox wipes and keeping the baby's area and yourself clean, the baby should be good.

Sorry sweetie. My baby was being exclusively breastfed and got sick at a month old. Ugh!

Put her in her car seat to sleep - that way she won't have to lay flat. You can put the carseat in her crib.

Hope she misses this cold - I really do!!

She has better odds of not getting it, or getting it less severely. Also remember that kids get over colds quicker because they actually sleep sooo much, especially compared to adults.

With that being said, if she does get it, prop her mattress up a little to help her drain, or let her sleep in the swing. That made a lot of difference for our girls when they were infants. Also run the humidifier, and if you use vapor rub - put it on her feet.

Here's hoping baby doesn't get it!!!

If she hasnt gotten it already, unless you JUST got sick, then she is unlikely to. It's quite rare for it to happen, but it can.

If you just got sick? Pretty much guaranteed she will, too. Less from your daughter, and more from breathing on her while nursing and carrying her. Typically less severe as she'll be getting the antibodies in your milk... But not always. Talk to your doc ahead of time. I'm lucky in living so close to Canada we can still get infant meds... But many peds stock them as well.

Not sure how upstate you are, but if you're close to CA then that's another option for the future.

Babies get colds all the time, even breast fed babies. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If she does get a cold, running a vapourizer in her room helps.

There is a pretty good chance she'll get it, even though she's breastfed. My oldest was formula fed and didn't get her first cold until she was 14 mos old. This was because she wasn't around other children, and the adults around her were very healthy. My second child was exclusively breastfed and had his first cold at 3 weeks old because my daughter gave it to him.

IF she gets it, just prop her mattress up slightly (please do not put her car seat in her crib), use a cool mist humidifier, suction her nose and use saline drops, and check on her often at nap time and night time.
