this is really gross but when i was pregnat with my first one i would get a bowl of mayo, a bowl of brown sugar anda bowl of green olives with the pits in them and alternate eating bits of each all day long. with my second one i found out i had gestational diabetes and couldnt have sweets and the whole pregancy i craved plain m&m's right after i had him i ate a 2 lb bag all at once and puked andhave never been able to eat plain m&m's again
When I was preg. I remember craving fresh fruit, cheese-it crackers, string cheese, and yes pickles. MMMMMM.....still sounds good. No, I'm not preg. again, hee hee.
Chocolate... ok, it depended on if I was having a girl or boy... I loved cottage cheese and cantaloupe, lots of water, pretzels with my girls, home made healthy chocolate chip cookies with whole wheat flour, flax seed meal and oats....apples and peanut butter, I tried to eat when I was hungry and eat something that would satisfy me so I didn't have to spend all day in the kitchen....carrot sticks?
I loved cream cheese with salsa poured over it with some whole wheat crackers. I like the TLC whole grain crackers.
I also craved cottage cheese(which I had never eaten) with celery. I also made mini pizzas in my toaster oven with a whole wheat bagel, sliced tomatoes and a slice of mozzarella cheese on top. Broil it up and it was yum-o!
I made jello snacks. Little cups with jello and fruit. Almonds, I snacks on almonds too.
With my daughter I craved Peach Snapple and drank it by the cases. With my son it was boiled hot dogs and I ate them by the pack. Not the healthiest things, but you know how CRAVINGS go!
I loved eating edamame. full of protein and fiber and a little salty.
Don't laugh or gross out until you try it.
Do you like Pickels? Do you like peanut butter?
The best quick snack and you don't feel hungry for hours!
Try whole wheat bread, sliced dill or sweet pickels, and peanut butter.
If you like these 2 items, you'll love this snack!!!
Sincerely, S. M
I used to cut an apple up and then make a dip that was half peanut butter and half chocolate syrup mixed well (one tablespoon of each seemed to work for one apple). I was addicted to it. Banans were good with it too.
I remember when I was preg and sub-teaching in school, I'd fill my pocket with a handful of raw nuts and slowly nibble on them throughout the day. Happy memories :-) Love almonds!!
Pretzels, baby carrots, apples, bananas, spoon of peanut butter or celery w/PB, toast, eng muffin (oh I remember a meltdown I had when the toaster caught fire once on my english muffin!! NOT a happy day LOL) Eggs (either cooked (w/ as little grease as u can) or hardboiled to take with & eat later). Fruits. dried fruits (apricots, raisins, etc). If you like bell pepper, slices of those. Cottage cheese (w/applesauce or pineapple or what you prefer)
Everytime I ate candy, I'd get sick! :-P
Not exactly a snack but I developed a fondness for swiss chard when I found that it was great at reducing water retention & swelling (which was horrible for me the last part of my pregnancy). Planted it in our garden and would have it often.
Hi, I really liked eating fruit and spoon fulls of peanut butter. Baby carrots are good too. good luck!
My absolute FAVE pregnancy snack was strawberries & lowfat cottage cheese. Yum!!
Hi T.,
These were some of my favourite pregnancy snacks, and in fact are still favourites (I'm breastfeeding and still have high calorie needs):
Baked sweet potato or ordinary potato topped with cheese and avocado, with salad on the side
A smoothie made of mango, raspberry, chocolate-flavoured protein powder, flax oil, and whole (vitamin D) milk
Nuts (especially almonds and walnuts)
Dried fruit
Olive and rosemary bread with hummus (you can get the bread from Safeway - it has no additives or sugar and it's the same price as most sliced breads)
Fruit juice to drink
creme-caramels made with whole milk instead of cream, and extra eggs
Frito Pie. That's all I ate. Ever. LOL
My son's birthday is just before Christmas, so the last couple of months of pregnancy, I ate lots and lots of Costco pumpkin pies. I called that having my "vegetables". (Pumpkin IS a veggie, after all!) Top it with ice cream for that all important dairy serving too! :)
Fresh fruit is a given, but canned peaches or pears (in light syurp) on lowfat cottage cheese was one of my regulars. Yogurt with some granola is also yummy. I get my yogurt from Trader Joes and it is divine. I also ate celery and natural peanut butter almost every day. Or celery with cream cheese. If you're home, a quick yogurt smoothie is really nice. I would put some yogurt, vanilla soymilk, frozen strawberries (or any frozen fruit you enjoy) with a banana and a couple of tablespoons of flaxseed meal and a touch of honey. So good and full of goodness too! Almonds are a great snack -- Trader Joes has a bazillion different kinds of nuts and nut snacks like trail mix - and they don't have a ton of salt or sugar. Whole grain crackers with some cheese, dry cereal that has fiber is always good too -- I would keep a baggie in the van and if I got hungry would have something nutritious to snack on. Congrats on your 2nd pregnancy and good luck with everything! I just had my 4th boy 10 weeks ago. Wish I still had the time to snack during the day!! :-) Take care!
When I worked, I would eat banana's, apples, grapes, I always loved the huge costco muffins! I would also snack on popcorn alot, it made my stomache less nauseas.
