this past weekend my 16month old had a fever for 3 days and it was high but ib prof was lowering it.
so i took him to the drs ears were fine but throat was a little red.
she said it was a mix of teething and small virus coming on. he has not been himself all week hes sad looking and he lays around on me wanting to be held. hes basically acting opposite of how he is.
i really dont see cold symptons except a few sneezes here and there.
did your kids act like this during teething? from the day he was born he never really cried. we hardly EVER hear him cry. now hes crying and moaning.
sounds like a virus. He just doesn't feel well. My son gets real clingy when he comes down with something. Wants only me. Last time he got sick, first indication of such was the fact that he was clingy with me. THEN the fever came later that night.
He could have strep throat or foot n mouth, how is his eating? Push the fluids, gatorade, pop sickles, jello....and see how he does. If he isnt better in a couple days, id take him back in.
I think this is the age molars start. Those are rough. You know your child. If he doesn't seem right after the weekend and your mommy senses kick in, follow them and go back to doctor. If you belong to a practice that has many pediatricians, see someone else to get a different opinion.
My first thought is HFMD (Hand, Foot, & Mouth Disease). I swear it catches me off guard every time (I have 4 children). Check the bottom of his feet, his palms, and his mouth for tiny red spots or blisters. One would think you'd notice them, but I never did until I purposely looked for them b/c they can be small! Also, sometimes the "blisters" might congregate more in one area vs. another. For example, when my daughter got it she could barely walk b/c it hurt so much. When my son got it he could barely swallow from the pain. But the one common theme was exactly what you describe. High fever followed by being clingy and sad and lethargic. If it's not HFMD, it definitely sounds like a virus. :o( Stinkin' viruses!
at 16 months my dd had 8 teeth come in. We had seen the dentist two weeks prior for her 1st check up and he said it looks like 9 teeth are on their way in. let me tell you it was hell for about 2 weeks. try the kids relief teething drops. they are homeopathic. it was great for dd you can also alternate between tyl/mot especially at bedtime. You can get the drops online amazon.com or at the vitimine shoppe they have them too. gl it will get better.
Could it be allergies? August 15th is usually when ragweed season kicks in.
sounds like teething... probably molars, molars are rough, i distantly remember with my seven year old something that went a little like this.
"it's teething"
"no it can't be teething this is terrible"
"it's teething"
"but... but..."
(enter molars)
"well look at that... it's molars! so that's why it was so bad.. bigger teeth, bigger side effects!"
Sounds like strep. Did they do a throat culture? If not, you should have that ruled out.
A virus doesn't have to mean a cold. If he's crying and moaning, then he's just not feeling well. He's probably achy and needs rest. If his throat is red, it probably hurts so I would continue with pain management using the ibuprofen.
Otherwise it sounds very mild.
