What Hospital to Choose

We are expecting our third child in May who we just found out is a little girl. I have two boys previously and they were both born at Mo Bap. I was thinking we might choose another hospital this time, not because we were unhappy with Mo Bap but just becasue I thought it would be exciting with something different. We vistited St Lukes but have not made up our minds. Did you deliver at an exceptional hospital and if so why were you so happy with your choice? My options are St Lukes, St John or Mo Bap. I would love to hear your thoughts on a great hospital.

What can I do next?

I had my child at St. John's and was very pleased. I am also an employee of St. John's so I'm a little biased :)...good luck with everything!

I had two of mine at St. Johns, and one at St. Lukes. I would recommend St. Lukes, it was a bit quieter and calmer. I felt like I got more attention and so did my baby. I am delivering at progress west this time, I know how you are feeling..it's kind of exciting to go somewhere new!
Good luck.

Hi J.,

I asked my OBGYN who has her office at St. Luke's but she also delivers at St. John's, where she preferred to deliver and she did not hesitate when she said St. John's. I was going to go with whatever she said.
It was a good thing we went to St. John's. My water broke and I had my little girl very early-- 13 weeks premature-- at St. John's and they were fantastic. I was very happy to be there. I still keep in contact with some of the nurses. My daughter received excellent care and is a healthy and happy 2 year old now. I owe it to the doctors and nurses in their NICU, as my daughter was only 2 pounds 3 ounces.
They have a level 3 NICU, and if your baby is early or has any life threatening complications, they will transfer the baby to a hospital with a level 3 NICU.
Best of luck in your choice and with your little one!

I delivered at St. Luke's 18 months ago and had a wonderful experience! The nurses were amazing and helped my husband and me feel comfortable as first-time parents, even helping us change a poopy diaper (I was still numb from the epidural) in the middle of the night and helping us calm our crying son when we didn't know what to do. We had our baby in our room with us the ENTIRE time we were in the hospital except when he got his circumcision. We also had a visit from a lactation consultant, an in-room bed for my husband, and I was able to get an epidural at 8 cm dilated and ready to push (they don't limit when you can get one). Plus, their food was actually very tasty :) Overall, I was extremely happy with St. Luke's and would recommend it to anyone.

I delivered all 3 of my boys at St. Luke's and would recommend it to anyone (unless you're expecting a problem with the baby...St. John's has the best NICU). Nurses were very helpful-from concerns with the baby to concerns about myself. I was able to keep the baby in my room as much as I wanted. The nurses were helpful with helping to nurse my first one, plus the lactation consultants were an extra help. My husband stayed each night. The nurses were even helpful in getting my family (who way over-stayed their visits) to leave me, since "Mom and baby need to rest now!"

I had my daughter at St. Johns a year ago and I will never have another baby there again. I wouldn't even let my dog have her babies there. They were horrible. I was there for 28 hrs and I don't think I saw the nurse but about 5 or so times. They had me eating jello and juices which made me sick. They would not help clean up and told my mother-in law were extra towels were. My epi didn't work so it was very long and painful labor. They slowed my delivery down so the dr. didn't have to come in until the morning and by doing that I got an infection and almost had to have a c-section.
So with the next one I will be going to St. Lukes since I have known many people that have had babies there and loved it.
Hope whatever you choose you have a great experience :)

Congratulations! I delivered my daughter in Sept. 07 at St. Lukes. I absolutely loved it. I would recommend it to anyone. I had no reason to expect anything to be wrong with her otherwise I may have chosen St. Johns. St. Lukes nurses were excellent. If I needed something they were there for me quickly. I remember my back was going into spasms from the epidural and one of them suggested a rice sock and went to get me one. It was so nice and hot and I could not believe how much it relieved the discomfort I was having. (I had not heard of a rice sock prior to this-but use it frequently now). I did not have the kindness shown to me the previous year when my son was born at a different hospital. Having my daughter at St. Lukes was an experience I will treasure (as this will be my last baby).

I had babies at both St Luke's and St John's, I was pleased with both hospitals. I found that St Luke's was a little more intimate because of the amount of babies being born there is a lot less than St John's. But that was the only difference that I can think of.

Working Mom of four, boy 17, boy 14(both St John's) and girl 10 and girl 8(both St Luke's). Married over 19th years to my high school sweetheart.

I delivered my second child at St. Luke's and LOVED it! The nurses were fabulous, the food was good, my room was large and private, and it was an all-around wonderful experience.

I made an impromptu visit to all three hospitals when I was pg and asked for a tour. I wanted to go at a time they weren't "expecting" someone to see how it is on a normal everyday basis. St. Luke's and MO Bap were super nice and gave me a thorough tour. The nurses were friendly and answered all my questions. St. John's was put off by my not making an appt and I was sent from one nurse to another until they finally told me to make an appt. So based on that experience alone, I would personally not recommend St. John's.

I had all three of mine at St. Luke's. I wish I could have stayed longer. :) Everyone is so wonderful. I would highly recommend it. Two things that helped me make the decision between St. Luke's and St. John's is that St. Luke's isn't a teaching hospital and they do not have as many babies delivered each day. I do know that St. John's has a lower level nursery though. I was told if there were problems with any of my kiddos, they may have to be moved there.

One change that they recently made (my youngest was born in June) is that the nurse that takes care of mom during recovery is also the baby's nurse. I just really loved the individual attention you get. Plus...they were very receptive to my wants and needs as far as visitors and such were concerned.

I had three great experiences there and everyone I know that has delivered there had great experiences.

I've had all 3 of my girls delivered at St. Johns. My husband and I agree that it's a great hospital. It's very clean, the staff are friendly and professional, and they care about your needs. If we were to have another- he or she would be delivered at St. Johns! Congratulations on your Baby Girl! Good luck! K. C.

Hi J.. Congratulations on your new baby girl on the way. I gave birth to my 4th child at St. Anthony's which was great, but I realize that is not on your list. My oldest son just had back surgery at St. John's about 3 weeks ago and was in the PICU and pediatric ward for about a week. Overall, I was very impressed by the hospital. The nurses were excellent in both wards. The pediatric unit was recently renovated, so we were thrilled with the private room. I thought everyone on staff was very attentive and friendly. The food wasn't bad. The cafeteria had good food. We had to pass through the maternity ward on the way to x-ray once, and the nursery looked very nice(also recently renovated). Good luck with whatever you decide.

I had my son at St. Johns it was a great hospital. Didnt even know there were other women in there having babies, never heard anyone giving birth. I love the rooms very cozy. Drs and nurses are great there. They were so patient with me when it came to nursing my son my one and only. I wish I could remember her name. She was awesome.
