Hi,,

I am looking in to getting a house or 2 to clean during the week and have a couple of people now interested possibly. I am trying to do some homework at what the going rate is to charge for home cleaning in the area. Do you charge by the hour? by the square footage? or a flat rate? Or what is normal usually? So, if any of you have cleaned houses and have tips or if any of you have your house cleaned and could tell me what you pay or if you have any tips I would appreciate it!

Thanks so much guys!

What can I do next?

I had a house cleaner several years ago that charged $25 and hour and would ONLY work 3 hours period! And didn't really do a very good job. I now pay $20 an hour and she's hear as long as I need her, usually about 5 hours a week.

Good Luck,

Make sure you actually look at the house before you bid on it, as you may have some surprises when you get there, and your $ per hour will go WAY down. When I clean houses, don't a whole lot anymore, but I always charged a flat rate, anywhere from $60 to $125 and up. Depends on what you do, and don't change sheets and trash as a regular thing, that is extra unless you say it up front. I would write down what you will be doing so the homeowner sees it in writing, then stick to it. Good luck to you, hope you make a ton of money!!

I clean my Aunt's house 1 x a month (they are gone a lot so the house is not that bad. I swear my house is dirtier in two days time than hers is in a month) Anyway, she pays me $250 which amounts to about $25 an hour since it takes about 8-10 hours depending on if she's had company or not. I usually take my own supplies. This is what she paid the woman who did it before me. The house is large with 4 bathrooms, a huge basement, and a lot of hardwood floor to clean. As far as tips, I would definitely ask about what the person's expectations are. My definition of clean, and another person's differ greatly. You may find yourself cleaning things the person doesn't even realize need cleaning and not getting paid accordingly. Also, I love the bissel steam mop and highly recommend you get one. (HSN has them for the best price) I used to clean hardwood first with a swiffer vac, then with vinegar and water and terry cloth mop. After I got the steam mop I went over it after the vinegar step and couldn't believe how dirty my floors still were, plus it's non-toxic. Good luck, it's hard work!

I haved searched this same question several times, to make sure I am not over charging. I live in Kansas and there are several people who only charge $10 an hour. Thats not me, I have cleaned houses for over 10 years and I charge a flat rate. My houses range from $40 to $80. The $40 houses im usually there only an hour and a half...but they are bi- weekly and maintained. I do it all, down and dirty! bedding if needed, although i don't offer! microwave, fridge and baseboards to countertops, even some laundry. I have built so many great realationships with my clients, some are considered great grandparents to my kids!! when people ask, i usually say at least $50. I enjoy cleaning for people who actually need me, if a senior needs help and is on a strict budget, i do it for little to nothing, because they need somebody, that is what makes my job rewarding.

WOW! where can I get someone to come in? Molly maids charge $75/hour for two girls, but they didn't do very well. They brought their own supplies and used them even though I said I wanted them to use mine. I've used 3 different companies, and didn't like any of them. All were about $250 for my first cleaning.
