Hi R.,
I was just curious what the response was to your question. I have a 1 year old and am starting to look around for baby sitters and was wondering what to pay.
Thanks,
Bobbi
what would be the proper rate for a sitter? i'm hoping to find someone with experience and maybe a mom herself.

Hi R.. We pay 10 an hour for babysitters. Most people I know pay 7-10.
Depending on the age of your child and how much the sitter has to do, $8-10 per hour is what I understand to be the going rate in the city.
I have a nanny with a child. She has 12 years of experience and a college degree. I pay her $12 per hour plus overtime and 10 days of paid time off per year. But for "babysitting" at night or weekends, I use a college student for $10/hr.
We've been paying $10/hr. for the teachers at our kids' daycare to sit during their off hours. If your kids aren't already in daycare -- check with one of your local ones (a national one like Kindercare or similar, they're pretty good about doing their due diligence on background checks & such) to see if any of the teachers there sit on the side.
We pay our girls between 10-12/hr. One is a nanny during the week and the other is a school teacher so they aren't young teens and they both have experience. I know someone else who pays their person $15/hr. hope that helps. we have a hard time finding someone to watch our baby too.
I live in Old Town and pay between $9-$11.00 per hour for one child. I have friends who pay their nannies who also do some light house work $13-$15.
Hi,
I pay my sitters $10 an hour and I have a nine month old. My friends tell me that sitters charge between ten to fifteen $ an hour. I will probably give my main sitter a raise after one year.
