What to Do About Diaper Table in Big Girl Room?

Hi Mommas,
I need some input here (and I always get such good advice!). I transitioned my daughter into her big girl bed about one month ago. she likes it, and has done a great job transitioning into it. However, she will sleep in in for abaout 4 or 5 nights in a row, then choose to sleep in her crib for one night. I hadn't been too concerned, but for the last 2 nights she has chosen her crib. (Baby #2 is due May 24th, so I need her to be firmly settled in her big girl bed SOON!). I know part of the problem is that I haven't finished her room (i.e., clothes, diapers, etc still in old room - I will change that THIS WEEK and I know that will help.

but - DD will be 3 at the end of May, and is not yet potty trained (I don't care, will work on with her this summer) - but I didn't want to put a diaper changing table in her new "big girl" room. but - I realize that several trips a day into her old room for changing is sending the message that that is her "real" room - and I need to change that FAST.

Should I just put the old diaper changing table in her new room? I had thought about just changing her in the bathroom to start sending the message "this is where we do bathroom business" - but I can't iimagine changing a messy poop with her standing up and wiggling, etc (she is sitll 2 - not alwyas so complaint!).

I am open to any suggestions you might have!
Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Hi Mammas,
well, I moved her changing pad into her big girl room, and I change her on the floor (I just hope I don't need a C-section with this next baby - I'll never be able to get up and down!). There isn't room in our bathroom to change her on the floor, plus too much potential for her to get hurt (she loves to jump and lots of tile in the bathroom).
I am tall, and I took the wheels off of her bed so she can get in and out - hurts my back to just think about changing her on one of our beds!

I had a friend come over today to hang the curtains in her big girl room and we re-arranged it, and she loved it and easily napped in there, but at bedtime she wanted to go in the crib AGAIN!! (4th night in a row - although I didn't let her last night, and I didn't let her tonight, either.). She had only wanted two dollies in her bed with her, but she had like 12 in ehr crib, so I asked if she wanted all her crib friends in her big girl bed with her, and we brought them all in, and she went to sleep easily in the bed. We'll see where she asks to sleep tomorrow night! but - I need her to be in that bed and happpy there - this next baby is coming in about six weeks!!!

thanks for all of your advice and input!
Warmly,
E.

I would keep the changing table in the baby room. Start changing her in the bathroom (unless its poo) and let her sit on the potty for a minute or two with a nakie butt. She may surprise you and train herself.

Being in your 9th month of pregnancy I would say bring her to the changing table for a poo diaper and change it very fast and quickly leave the room so she doesn't associate it as "her room" anymore. Keep the door closed and don't let her play in there.
As for the crib issue... eliminate it as a choice. Tell her its time for bed in your own room in your new bed. thats it no negotiating.

You can always lay her down on a towel in the bathroom. I'd say leave out the changing table. When it really warms up you can have a naked 3yr old running around I've found its easier to potty train them if you let run naked while they are potty training. To help w/ potty training you can also get her on a schedule start w/ every hour then up it 1.5 hrs when she starts staying dry. My son has a little timer that he sets and when it goes off I tell him its potty time.

Put the baby items in the baby's room and transition her room into a complete big girl room and tell her that big girls go in the bathroom.

If you have a changing mat, just put it on the floor. I have never used the diaper changing dresser in my babies room because there was a big bed in there that I used and I didn't use the one in our living room either, it was always easier for me to just put him in the floor. Maybe because I'm kind of short?

Hi E.,

Changing her on the floor is probably hard since you're pregnant. Can you put the changing mat on her bed? I put our diaper changing table in the bathroom. Easy access to the sink, etc. Not all bathrooms can accomodate the size of the table though.

Good luck and congratulations,
: ) Maureen
