Our ped told us that by the time the baby is 1, s/he should be eating a smaller version of what we eat. So, if you're having chicken and green beans for dinner -- he'd have the same, just cut into small pieces. My kids favorites were sweet potatoes (baked and cubed), yogurt, cheese cut in little cubes, green beans, peas, rice, pasta with red sauce or cheese sauce, little meat balls (made from ground beef or ground turkey) and any kind of fruit -- either cut small or slightly steamed and them mashed or cut if it's a really firm fruit (like apples). For lunch I made little sandwiches of cream cheese and jam or mashed avocado, tuna, mini pizzas (whole grain english muffin with a little red sauce and mozzerella baked until the cheese melted). Check out the book "First Meals" by Annabel Karmel. There are a lot of great ideas in there.
One tip -- both my kids loved to dip things. So, if they wouldn't eat veggies I'd give them hummus to dip the veggies in or dressing (ranch and french are their favs). Also, cut up fruit to dip in yogurt. It helps them develop their coordination for using utensils later, too.
