What to Get a 10 Year Old Girl for Christmas?

All my nieces (2 of them - so this is not a big sample pool) loved getting collection of fancy pens and papers for writing notes at that age... gold and silver pens with feathers and glittery stuff. Maybe those would make good stocking stuffers?

Call me old-fashioned, but a 10 year old does not need a cell phone. I have seen the Wii Fit and think it is pretty cool, and I'm not a video game fan. Giving her one of the two specific items she has asked for for Christmas is great and much more than many children receive.

As for other little gifts, what about a coupon book of fun things you can do together? Dinner out just the two of you, a trip to see the movie of her choice, or another fun activity that you both would enjoy. I still love spending time alone with my mom, and I'm in my 30s!

I got my niece an art kit since she likes to draw.

For books: my daughter likes the series, Eleven,Twelve and Thirteen
A Spa Making Kit(toy stores carry) or bubble bath/shower products from Lush or Sephora something for her room at Urban Outfitters (tweens are beginning to like)
I like to add CD's of Broadway Musical Soundtracks and/or buy Wall E or other classic movie on DVD

It's all about the phones and the ipod's nowadays, isn't it?
When my daughter was 10, she wanted things like CD's, a digital camera, craft sets, earrings, Little House on the Prairie boxed sets, ice skates, her own skiis. She got some of those things. I also started doing gift cards to places like the movie theater, ice rink, arcade, etc. It can be a little challenging at first when they graduate from the toy stage. Good luck!

I teach 5th grade, so I went to the experts for you. My girls are into Jonas Brothers and HSM, so anything about that is huge. They also like board games, I recently bought the class Guess Who Extra and Pictureka and they play them whenever we have indoor recess. As for books, some of my girls are into the Stephanie Myers Twilight series, but I personally think they are too young for that, others are still into Harry Potter. I am introducing them to the Percy Jackson series written by Rick Riordan, and the new series called 39 Clues, which is a series of 10 books written by several different authors. There is an internet tie in through Scholastic Books (www.scholastic.com) and it is also a contest and it seems to be pretty cool. Jewelry is big, they love earrings and bracelets and they also enjoy making them. Other suggestions are makeup (like nailpolish), Ugg boots, camera, hair straightener or curling iron,laptop,scrapbooking materials, pocketbook, slippers, perfume, sports equipment, hair jewelry, concert tickets, and converse sneakers. Hope this helps, I had to ignore the boys yelling their suggestions (pink Tony Romo jersey was one!)

Maybe a nice journal & encourage her to write daily.

Speaking from my own old fashioned holiday times of long ago,when I was a child, ( I'm a grandma now!) I would receive from Santa fun/functional craft gifts, like artist's drawing/painting materials, and knitting/crocheting needles and colorful yarns, which over the many years sent me on an interesting adult lifetime love of creativity, and always the ability to keep myself busy and occupied drawing/painting ( I became employed in NYC as a commercial artist to earn my living )creating blankets, afgans, sweaters, scarves, hats, baby bootees, etc's. for myself, family, and as gifts for my friends. The craft toys I received back in those days, of long ago, developed into my lifetime skills. I'll admit, my own mother was a teacher, and gave me lessons. Santa 'planted the seed' which grew into passionate hobbies for me. I've never been bored, I can always keep interested in some new craft. Perhaps your young daughter could be intrigued/fascinated receiving imaginative Christmas gifts which would lead her into the same direction as myself,... back in the 'good old days?!!!'

DOes she like to go to the movies? What about a few movie passes? How about a gift certificate she can use later on to get games for the Wii Fit? What are some things she likes to do with her friends? Use this as motivation and maybe get the gift/gift certificate/tickets... for 2 so she can take a friend along. Good luck.

well im 10 and i guess im not to much of a girly girl what i like is like the password journals, ugs, mabye a pet,dsi, and maybe a camera. Just trying to help.

Beleive it or not my ten year old still loves american girl dolls to collect, (not really play with them) and calico critters, (another collection) she remains fascinated with small toys that are posable and put in a display type setting.

She loves i-tunes to downloan on her i-pod. She really does like crafts, etc., with wanting to sew and do needle point or knitting. It's a great age to encourage something like that which can become a life-long hobby.

If she's ever wanted to enroll in something, like say for example, horse-back riding or ice-skating, you could buy so many lessons and package the brochure up with a few supplies needed to do the activity and that makes it more fun to unwrap something and then she has the lessons to look forward to.

My daughter likes purses, lip gloss or very light lip-stick, girl perfume, hair accesories, art supplies, cool designer accessories for her bedroom; (matching lamp, rug, curtain valance, bed-spread (comforter) door-way beads, wall paper border etc. etc.) Those things make a great gift and you can help her "re-do" her bedroom with her! They love an accessorized room, with the lastest, coolest teenage type deco stuff.

Other than that, you just need to get creative and really drill her about what she likes to do, or has always wanted to do, (within reason!).

btw, My daughter does already have a cell-phone for limited uses only. She is not allowed to bring it to school, or anywhere without our approval. It's mostly so she can call us from a neighbor or friends house if she feels the need, or is at the movies or other event with a friend and their parents, and should ever feel the need to call me. I monitor who she is speaking with etc. etc. It sits in a drawer most of the time, but it's there so she can always get a hold of us, when she's with friends or in others social settings. (ex; She goes swimming with another family, or something.) It's all managed very closely.

My daughter is also 10. She is getting an MP3 player.. like an ipod but a little cheaper. She wants some clothes from Abercrombie.. I went to an outlet... and the shirts were 9 and 10 each.. Elizabeth Gardens Mall. I'm buying her some DS games, scrabble, sorry slide game, gift cards to 5 below and Claires. She also wants a phone.. but I told her when she is 11 .. I bought my son one when he was 11. I bought her a new journal from Target. She also asked for a micrscope.. I got that at the Discovery Store.. she loves Science. Good luck!!

-gift certificate to Border's (So she can pick out what she wants, and you know she'll be reading!)

-gift card for itunes or Rhapsody (if she has an MP3 player)

-concert tickets (or a promise of 3 concert tickets to a show of her choice, so she can take one friend...and you!)

I think most 10 year old girls would like these!

Books, CD's, DVDs. That's all my niece asks for (oh, and Wii games and clothes, but your daughter's already mentioned those). If you don't know what CDs or DVD's she'd like, a gift card to FYE, or Target or whereever is a good idea. I see no reason to get her the cell phone just because she asked for it. Christmas is not about getting everything you asked for.

My daughter's nine, and into anything glitzy, sparkly, or pop princess like - so Hannah Montana or HSM stuff is always popular with her and all her friends. Jewelry, make-up, perfume ( I like some of the Avon stuff like sweet honesty). This child isn't a big reader, but my son is and he's almost 11, so he always enjoys books as gifts. How about a little diary?

As they get older it gets more difficult.

Does your daughter enjoy music? 10 was arround the age when my daughters wanted a "boom box" or a personal cd player and some cd's.

Some girls this age are into jewelry.

Does she like to paint her nails or do her toes? A supply of nail polish, and some mani/pedi supplies.

Take her to the store/mall with you while you do your shopping and observe what type of items or stores she seems interested in.

if she does not already have one why not a diary ..one of the electronic style ones..or some style bracelet making kit to make some for her close friends..or a digital camera..there are some nice ones out there very reasonable in price...or crayola makes a smaller digital camera with camcorder and can hook up to the computer to print out the pictures and frames and things with it...only about 40 dollars for it..walmart has it in the electronic section..or if she cooks with you why not get a pattern and material for her to make her own apron for the cooking..can be any fabric..holiday or everyday..either way i bet she will enjoy what ever you get her.rma

What would a 10 year old do with a cell phone?? Personally,I think that is too young,not to mention the ongoing monthly expense for it.What about the Chicken Soup for the Soul series,there are a couple of great ones for preteens.Gift cards are always good for clothing stores,movies,movie rentals,fast food places.My 11 year old daughter loves High School Musical,American Eagle,Old Navy,BlueNotes,music(cd's,ipod,mp3 etc).How is her room decorated? If it could use something more grownup,there are tons of choices such as a new lamp,comforter,decorations etc.

Well if she is anything like my step daughter who is 10 some days she acts older then there is other days where she acts very younger then 10 so she loves music so i got her a karaoke wich really was not that bad in pricing i think i paid around 35.00 for a emerson and all she needs is a sd card to put more music on. nail polish make up NO EYELINER <MY OPINION > . also petshop toys she loves those little things and lipgloss purse and if she really wnats a cell phone when you are ready for it get the pre paid cells there cheaper and if she looses the phone you paid 20.00 so then oyu would know you have to wait alot longer and she can not blow your phone bill up or you can start off with getting her own landline in her bedroom basic service lol i remeber when that was the big thing my own phone line but just trying to help i hope this gave you a little insight :)

My 2 girls, 9 and 11, look forward to opening the same gifts each year. Each Christmas brings a craft project, a book or 2, new mittens, wool socks, a game, cozy pajamas, and an item from their list. This is in addition to Santa's gift and stockingful. This tradition makes shopping easier and the girls know what to expect. Last year, we missed 1 item and boy, did we hear about it! (miscommunication between mom and dad...we'll double check this year)
By the way, our 11 yr old asked for the cell phone. We will enter into negotiations at some point in the new year. A cell phone will require a change in our cell plan to allow for the texting my daughter will desire. And my daughter will be expected to do more around the house to "pay" for this priviledge.

Hello! My daughter is 10 and would also like a cell phone (no way!) as well as a Wii Fit (maybe????). She is also asking for a "wrislet" purse ("Coach" term) but realizes that the reasonable/realistic present would be a Kohl's version. Another dream is an I-Pod. My husband lost his job 2 weeks ago so I am realistically focusing on lower cost gifts. My daughter loves to read and I am planning on getting her a subsription to a "tween" magazine as it will reinforce for reading skills as well as being "more fun" than a book as well as providing an anticipated monthly mailing.

How about a mosaic picture frame set, a bracelet-making set for friendship bracelets or some other handicraft she might enjoy? Something special for her room might be nice too: frames for pictures, a nice candle holder, etc.

The cell phone!!! why not? You ask her what she wants. and she told you. either
1-she is withholding any other ideas to put you into a delima of what to get so that you will give up and get what she wants. (smart 10 yr old)
2-Shereally doesnt want anything else. So give the WI along with a cup of christmas morning hot choclate and a merry christmas hug. (some kids arent getting anywhere near that)
3-Get the cell phone. there are plans that allow you to be in control. You control who,and when she can talk as well as how long. Times have changed drastically. When I was 10 I lived in Germany. It cost.10(in german currency) everytime you picked up the phone. So we were not allowed to touch it. 7th grade was the first year I remember talking to freinds on the phone. But a cell phone is the uniform of todays kids. Just like a lawyer puts on his suit and tie. picks up his breifcase and pda or blackberry. Todays youth puts on the jeans(or whatever the new fachion is today in your area) and picks up their cell phone and school books. Its their uniform. So your job is to find a way to accept the uniform with your rules. (check out the new plans.) one more idea is maybe she doesnt want cloths because she doesnt want the style her mother would pick out. give her a visa green with enough $ on it to buy her style of cloths. Please do not buy a store gift card... go to your bank and get Visa green

I'm 11 years old but it's the same thing.You should get her a phone because sometimes if she's bored she could text her friends or play games.Also because they might make fun of her because she doesn't have one and other kids do.
