I am having baby number 4 in 9 weeks. It has been 4 years since I have had a new born and
am not sure the best & safest bottles to use. I plan on nursing but would like to introduce bottles
of breast milk early on. Please let me know what the newest safest brand and type to use these days.

What can I do next?

Go for Dr. Brown's glass bottles. They are absolutely the safest....no plastic at all! My son never has gas issues and eats quickly from them. I swear by them!

Dr. Browns (BPA Free) bottles are awesome. I discovered those with my second. Before that I used Avent which were good but not as good as Dr. Browns. I tried Gerber with my second and those were awful. They leaked and were completely useless to me.

Dr Browns are a total pain to wash. Born Free is the same concept and a better bottle in my opinion. Way easier to clean too.

The Brown's bottles are good. It has a special contraption to prevent ingesting air.

Dr. Brown's has been a great choice for me. I went through 3 brands with my first and found Dr. Brown's does a great job of eliminating air bubbles. Our pediatrician recommended them and I haven't looked back since. My 6 month old is currently using them and doesn't have to burp a whole lot. They have them BPA free as well.
The only downfall is the pieces you have to deal with, but well worth it and not a big deal once you get used to them. I put mine in the top rack of the dishwasher and it cuts down on wash time.

Dr. Browns are the best. The only thing is they have extra parts to clean which is kinda a pain but so worth it.

Most manufacturers are making BPA free bottles now. We use Avent, but we don't like the new ones as much because they don't seal as well. But I think your safe if you make sure the package says BPA free. Congratulations and good luck!!

Whatever you buy, make sure it says "BPA Free." There are several brands that make their bottles without BPA now, and I think Babies-r-Us only sells BPA free plastics. I tried Born Free, but they are too much work to put together and take apart. I settled on Evenflo; very inexpensive, easy to use and clean and they are BPA free too. Good luck!

I had to try several different bottles after my boys were born, and the one that worked was Playtex disposables. And not the Drop In system, but the old style plastic liner that you pull over the top of the bottle, and squeeze the air out of them (found at walgreens and rite aid). (we had also tried Medela and Avent, but neither of those worked for us).

I have heard nothing but great things about Dr. Brown's though.

Good luck!

if you're looking for "safe", go with glass. i think evenflo makes them, i bought mine at babies r us. the nipples are exchangeable with similarly-shaped plastic bottles, by playtex maybe?

if you're concerned about them breaking, i've only broken 1 in 2.5 years, and that was when i dropped it myself on the garage concrete floor. they've fallen and bounced indoors on my wood floors numerous times. the only situation i would avoid bottles for is if you have a lot of stone tile in your house, that could possibly break the bottle. carpet and wood are fine.

but even though there are BPA plastics out there, i'm just waiting for the next big scare about some OTHER substance causing health problems. glass is tried and true safe for baby.

Definitely Dr. Browns!!! :)

If you rinse them right after use, then the parts aren't so bad to clean, and they come with a special little brush to get the small places.

As others have noted, BPA free or glass bottles are the best. I'd be surprised if any NEW bottles out there aren't BPA free....but double check anyway.

I am also a fan of Dr. Brown's bottles. They do have extra parts but are easy to wash in the top of the dishwasher in a basket designed for bottle parts (those are cheap at Target/Walmart).

Also, since you are going to use breastmilk in your bottles let me suggest that you use Lasinoh storage bags. They are a little better than the others on the market and won't leak (at least in my experience). When you go to warm the milk, LEAVE THE MILK IN THE BAG and run it under warm tap water. It will heat the milk up in seconds flat (if the water hurts your hands, it's too hot!). Then transfer the milk into the bottle. Not only is it faster, easier, and healthier (you won't cook the milk like you could in a bottle warmer), but you can heat the milk up in public MUCH EASIER than if it were in the bottle. You can also tell if you didn't heat the milk up enough in a Dr. Brown's bottle if the fat in the milk sticks to the "straw" inside the bottle.

Congrats and best wishes!

We have always like the playtex bottles with the inserts, you can get them BPA free now...just make sure the box you are getting says it cause they still sell the old type. I found it the best with our kids when doing both breastfeeding and bottle feeding. But each child is different so I wouldn't buy to many of one type until you know for sure he/she will take that particular bottle.
