When Should Mirena Be Taken Out When Planning to Conceive?

My friend has Mirena, and she is planning to start trying in April/May. She doesn't know when she ovulates because she doesn't have a regular cycle. When should she have this taken out?

Will it be harder to get pregnant because she had Mirena in for over 2 years?

Any comments would be helpful!

I had Mirena in for the full blown 5 years and I ended up getting pregnant a month and a half later after removal but I miscarried. Then around 2 and a half months after the miscarriage(4 months after removal) I got pregnant a second time and now I am going to have a healthy baby boy in the beginning of March. :)I suggest taking it out in January since sometimes it can take up to a couple of months for her to get her period back and should have 2 full periods before getting pregnant to lessen the chance of miscarriage. I know times will all vary between each woman but it's the safest bet if she is wanting to get pregnant around that time.

I had mine taken out over a year ago and still have not concieved, I have tracked my temp, ovulation calandar, sit bottom under pillow after sex and still nothing everyone is different. If I had known that I would not get preggers I never would have had it put in. Oh well you live and learn, I guess.

I had the Mirena for about 5 months and got pregnant a week after it came out. Definitely hadn't been planning on it happening that quickly!

My SIL had her's taken out middle of Aug. She got pregnant on Sept 16th and then miscarried. the baby in the middle of Oct. Her OB told her she could start trying right away and so they did. Then after the miscarriage her OB told her well your uterus lining was to thin to conceive and carry to term so wait 6weeks to start trying again. She said since she didn't have one full cycle before she conceived that was the reason. So I would say get it taken out at latest end of Feb and use condoms until she is seriously ready. I hope this helps!!!

My SIL had hers taken out and was pregnant 2 months later. With her first child it took about a year. Everyone is different, but most doctors will suggest waiting for your normal cycles to return for a few months before trying when coming off of any birth control.

I had mirena for almost 5 years and it completely stopped my periods. Then once i took it out it took almost a year to get pregnant. But I've heard of women getting pregnant right away so everyone's different

She needs to talk to her OB. Mirena doesn't affect ovulation at all - it simply prevents implantation. So, you shouldn't have any "transition" because she is already ovulating. Mirena CAN affect your period, however, which may be why she is not regular. She may or may not be ovulating regularly - and only her ob will be able to determine that. If she is not ovulating regularly she will need to either use an ovulation predictor, which will indicate when she is fertile and therefore the best time to have sex. Or she will need to have some assistance (ie chlomid) to stimulate ovulation on a regular schedule.

Good luck to your friend.
