Kinda of off topic...

I'm wondering if anyone had trouble or if it took a while to get pregnant with your 2nd child?

My first was simple. We decided we wanted a baby, went unprotected, and the next months I was preg.

NOW, my son just turned 4 and we have literally been trying for a year with no results.

I've read everything about timing it and all of that... but my cycle changes every month, now, for some reason. It normally come 5 - 7 days earlier every month. Then every once in a while, like this month, it will be a few days late. So really, I don't have a way to calculate it. We just handle business every day for a solid week to cover any discrepancies ;p

Maybe it's bc I'm 30 now and my body is changing? I really don't get it. Oh and I had Mirena from 08 - 2010.

Has anyone had any similiar experiences? How did it go? How long did it take?

What can I do next?

All 3 of my kids were conceived , without "trying", just not protecting against it. I was in my early 30's with the last. It could be the Mirena or any number of things, why it's taking longer , than you would like. I will say that I don't think it would be as easy for me now, like you, my periods aren't as regular as they used to be.

I had the same problem. First was easy as pie, then the second one took 18 months to conceive. The difference was, with my first, I had been on birth control, which regulated my cycle, so we got pregnant right away after I stopped taking it. With my second, I hadn't been on BC, so my cycle was erratic, so conception was more difficult. Now I'm 18 weeks pregnant with my third, and with this one, I took BC pills, regulated my cycle, and I was pregnant within days of stopping the pill.

Looking back it took me 6 months the first time and only a month this second time.

My daughter will be 6 when #2 is here and I'm going to be 32.

I know it's hard, but try to relax. Go with the flow and try to have fun. Time to be creative in the bedroom. :)

Have you tried the over the counter ovulation tests? Since your cycle is a bit irregular, it may help you pin point when you are actually ovulating. I had this happen with my #2... first baby I was prego on our "first try". Second baby we tried for about 6 months. I have a regular cycle so I thought I was ovulating around day 14 but after taking the ovulation test I was actually ovulating around day 20 and I got pregnant the first month I used the ovulation test!

Have you tried monitoring your cervical position, mucus, Basal Body Temperature, etc.? If you can learn about Natural Family Planning that should help you to determine when you should be having intercourse in order to achieve pregnancy.

Good luck!

Chart your cycle...it's so simple if you do it. read "taking charge of your fertility" takes the guess work out of it all.

I have always had an irregular cycle and had no issues charting

I had a similar experience - 1st one was super quick. Second time took more than a year. Try some over the counter ovulation strips to see when you are ovulating. And if that doesn't work within 2 months, go to your OB. Secondary infertility is real. I'm not trying to scare you, but you don't want to put off talking to a doctor for too long if it's already been a year.

I had the same thing going on for the past year. I finally got pregnant. We had sex every two days starting on the last day of my period until day 28 of my cycle.

My 2nd daughter is 8 weeks old, and my first will be 5 yrs. this week. We tried for 2 years and then had an ectopic...then, got pregnant again right away when able to try again.

Someone told me to take Mucinex, which thins out mucus for colds, but works on the mucus throughout the body...I know the Mirena works by thickening cervical mucus, so it's worth a try. Also, she said to take vitamin B6 and B12. I tried both of these, not sure if they were the factor.

When I got pregnant with my first, I weighed 140 pounds, but had JUST recently lost 10 pounds. Then, of course, I gained with the pregnancy, and after that never got below 150 again. After 2 years, I finally got serious about those 10 pounds and boom...got pregnant. same thing after the ectopic. kept them off and got pregnant.
