Nanny Through Agency- Background Checks

We are in the process of hiring a nanny for our baby boy who is 8 months old.We have a temporary nanny now from an agency, but we will have to find a permanent one (through the same agency) as she will have to leave soon. My husband is at home this week so our baby has not been left alone with this nanny yet. We like the nanny we have now but I still worry about leaving the baby alone. The agency does background checks on all nannies and we can get their SSN for tax purposes. My question is for moms who have hired nannies through such...

First Day of School!

After School Care...Should I Hire a Nanny?

Hello! I will have a 1st grader (elementary) and a 5th grader (intermediate school) in the upcoming school year. My husband and I work full time and are unable to pick them up from school or the many after school activities offered. I feel bad that my kids are not able to participate in these activities because of our work schedule (8ish-5ish) and have been thinking about hiring an after school nanny or babysitter that can pick one up from school and the other up after whatever after school activity they may have. This last school year we...

Naps at Day-care

Hi All, I have a 6 months old baby girl, who started day-care about 2 weeks ago. Since than she is taking (good case scenario) two 20 min. naps btw. 7am and 4pm. When daddy picks her up and takes her homes, she takes a nap from 4;30-5:30, and then she goes to bed around 8:30-9pm, and sleeps usually until around 6:45 (and then I need to wake her up). Any ideas how to help her take a nap at daycare?

Gifted and Talented Testing

Hi all, Does anyone have any experience with thier child going through the GT testing? The school my daughter (age 5) attends sent home a parent nomination form and I really thought nothing of it. (I thought that she was right where she needed to be for kindergarten.) Anyway, a few days later her teacher asked me to sign a permision slip because she was nominating her to be tested. I looked online to find any information on GT testing but I really couldn't find anything so I spoke to the person in charge at the school and he said that the...

Considering a Nanny Share, Advice

Hi, I am meeting up with a family and nanny next week to talk about doing a nanny share with my son when he is 1 and their son, same age. It will start when their older child starts kinder next fall. The nanny has worked for them for 3 years. They would like for the boys to be at their house as mom works from home. What advice does everyone have for me?

Kiddin' Around Drop-In Daycare in Frisco

Like a lot of Moms, I don't have any relatives that live close by to be a babysitter. My husband and I desperately want a date night but I am hesitant to use a teenage babysitter. Have any of you used Kiddin' Around in Frisco? It is a drop in daycare. It appears to be awesome but would love some honest feedback....thanks.

Preparing for Kindergarten

My oldest daughter will be starting kindergarten in a few weeks and I'm in a flurry trying to get everything ready. Gathering school supplies, clothes, making after school care/child care arrangements, making sure I have all her records with the school. I started to think about it that we are doing everything within our power to make this new transition as easy for her as possible but no one is preparing me. :) I was looking at the Welcome to the School Letter that I received in the mail and almost burst into tears. I remember bringing...

Preschool- If They Don't Go, How Do You Prepare Them for Kindergarten?

My son is in preschool for the second year. So far I have been happy until recently. He is being bullied and I believe his class is under staffed. I spent the day with him and just watched. I really don't think the teacher has enough time to spend with each child. What they are doing I could probably do at home. Do any of you have your preschoolers at home and what type of things do you do with them? What should they know before kindergarten? Thanks

Is There a Pre Pre K?

Hi I heard that there is a pre pre-k for children under 3 years old. Does anyone know of a school that offers something educational (not day care) for kids under 3. My daughter is 2 yrs old, I would like to put her in a class that would prepare her for pre k (and give me some free time, and it would get her to be less attached to 'mommy') thanks!

Infant in Day Care Issues

I am a new mom to a 16 week year old. I went back to work 4 weeks ago, and have been trying to adjust to leaving my baby in a corporate run day care 3 days a week. I feel like he is not getting enough attention and being held enough. He's the smallest so I think they keep him in the swing most of the day. He's too small to be on the floor with the other infants. Yesterday, I picked him up from day care and he's crying in swing. At home he never cries. I guess he was hungry and they were warming the bottle. At home if he's hungry to the...

Am I Doing My Kids a Disservice by Not Having a Social Life?

I guess my question is am I setting an antisocial example for them? I have moved 3 times in the past 9 years, all different states. I can rarely make friends and my husband and I have never used a babysitter so we don't get alone time unless family is visiting. But now that my daughter is in school I feel a little awkward about not having a social circle. I had one friend in the last place we lived and our families got along great but we usually just got together for playdates. Now we are in another state and I am overwhelmed with...
