When to Switch to Full Size Bed from Toddler Bed?

My 3 yr old has a convertible crib/toddler bed that turns into a full size bed. When did you move your child from the toddler bed to the full sized bed? She's tall for her age, about 40" (the size of a 4 yr old), and she still has about a foot left of room when she lays down.

What can I do next?

Well, we never used a toddler bed. We put our son's crib mattress on the floor and when he was no longer rolling off in the night, we moved him to a regular twin bed. He's slept on that since he was about 21 months.

When did I move her? At age 4 when one of her friends said, "why are you still sleeping in a baby bed?" I loved the small bed because it left more room to play in her bedroom. But soon after we bought the bunk beds and moved her little sister in to the bottom bunk. (My oldest went from the toddler bed to the top bunk with no problems.)

There is no set time. If your child is not rolling out of the bed, they are likely ready. My oldest never slept in a toddler bed. The second child did because she refused to sleep with her sister in a full sized bed. The third child is in a toddler bed. I'm ready to switch number three because she has stopped rolling out of bed, I just have to go out and get a twin bed. I never put a rail on the toddler bed. Since it is mere inches to the floor, they have learned not to roll out pretty quickly.

We switched my second son over when he got too long for the toddler bed and he was no longer wetting the bed at night. My third son is almost ready to make the switch, but he still fits in it and he still wears a pull-up at night, so I'd like to wait until he can stay dry at night if possible.

I would change it whenever you wanted. She is already use to the idea of a bed and shouldn't have a problem. My oldest went strait to a twin bed and did fine. I would just make a big deal about her getting a big girl bed and it being bigger like mommy and daddy's. Let her pick out the sheets so she feels like she has some control over the situation. And I would get a rail for the side of the bed so she doesn't roll off (if your toddler bed has one that you can use just use that one).

As soon as J started noticing things around the room and attempting to crawl out of his baby bed we put him in a toddler bed. He is 2 and in a twin full time now.

I put a plastic mattress cover over the entire mattress, Wal-Mart a couple of dollars. Very thin, jumping on the bed will tear it up after a while but it still protects the mattress while it lasts. I also always use a waterproff mattress pad under the sheet. I have two so when one is being washed the other is on the bed. I hang them to dry but they can be dried on low or medium heat in the dryer.

J is still in an overnight diaper so the bed usually doesn't get wet at all.

If you are worried about her falling out of bed then put two sides against the wall and put pillows on the floor on the side that is open to the room.

i just did this last week with my 3yr old son. When you make the switch, don't forget to buy a plastic matress cover in case she has an accident. yeah, that was my mistake!!
