When to Teach Son to Stand to Pee

In the last week, my son has become a potty champ! He tells me every time he has to go, or just goes to the potty (at home) on his own. We started him on the potty chair. We now, as of today, have him on a potty seat on the regular toilet. He is doing great. I just don't know when to teach him to stand up when he pee's. I know i want to give it a little time so he can get used to going on the big potty, but for how long? For obvious reason's, I'd rather he learn sooner than later, especially when going in public places. But i don't want to confuse him or be turned off by the potty from changing it so many times. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Well my husband showed him how to pee and stand since I have not prefected that myself.
It sounds like he is ready right now.

We used a stool until ours was tall enough. Be ready to clean the wall behind the toilet and everything else in his aim. Have fun!!!!

My son was 2 years old. He didn't like sitting down to pee, he wanted to stand up like Daddy. He was standing up to pee when he was still using the potty chair and when he switched to the toilet he stood on a stool until he was tall enough to go without. I just had to make sure he paid attention to where he was aiming.

It's also a good time to teach him to wipe the dribbles off with toilet paper and to learn put the seat down!

oh girl are you a opening a can of worms! pee pee worms! my son started at about three becasue he busted open the door on my boyfriend and saw him doing it! btu he wasn't tall enough nor did he have the aiming quite right. make sure he has something to stand on if he;s not tall enough to aim on his own. and keep a bucket of bleach water handy because their will pee somewhere on your floor whether he did a good job or not! lol and the missing the toilet will stop......never. but i guess he will ne the judge of that when they are ready or they see another male doing it they usually get curious and want to try it. good luck.

My son started standing at around 2. He used a stool until he was tall enough. Encourage good aiming habits by using cheerios etc... and show him how to wipe up the seat. Good luck.

I suggest waiting till he's mature enough. I think we taught my son around 4 years old. My brother also learned somewhere around the same age (definitely before kindergarten). My friend had her brother teach her son when he was potty training, so he never learned to sit. He also refused to hold himself for control because he wanted to pee like his uncle. Well he's 7 years old and I never let my son touch her toilet, it's always covered in dried urine.
Just because a baby can use a spoon doesn't mean that they're ready for a knife and fork. Try it out and if all goes well then great, if not...try again later.

i never "taught" him to. mine will be 4 at the end of september and has recently felt confidant enough that he has started wanting to do it like the big boys, all on his own, just over night. i wouldn't even bring it up. just be proud at how well he is doing. and let him be proud and happy with himself before putting more on him.

(ps, the rest of us use public toilets and are just fine. if it really worries you bring some chlorox wipes with you in your purse, or toilet seat covers)

My son wanted to start trying around 4 because he saw daddy doing it. My 3 year old wants to, but I won't let him yet. Basically, peeing while standing is a priviledge in my house, and if you can't do it without getting pee on everything, then you still have to sit. My 4 year old (almost 5 now) can do it no problem now. My 3 year old tries on occasion, but he isn''t able to control the stream direction yet.
