Hi C.,

Just as an FYI, if you're seeking more in-depth evaluation and assessment of her needs, Rush NeuroBehavioral Center (of Rush University Medical Center) specializes in social-emotional learning disorders and they might a good resource to help point you in the right direction. Website - www.rnbc.org

Kind regards,
J.

How old is she now? Is she in Junior high? I'm surprised that she wasn't diagnosed years ago. Your best bet is to send her to your local public high school--that is where she will get the best special ed. services. They have the services to help her. A local private school probably won't be much help unless it specializes in special education--which hardly exists!!

Is she independant now? How much support does she really need? Children with Aspergers tend to be higher functioning. Sorry for all the questions...

Have you contacted ECHO in Dolton, I think, they deal with all special ed and placing kids in programs that will benefit them. My aunt works there and they do great things, it is either Dolton or South Holland.

C., your best bet is to contact the Chicago Public Schools office of specialized services. They can tell you who to contact in their area. There number is ###-###-####. Hope this will help.

Contact your local school district's special education department. They should have a list of schools that service students with special needs. One place to try is called SPEED. It is a special education co-op for the South Suburban school districts. It is located in Chicago Heights. I believe the website is www.speed802.org

It is a starting place. Good luck!
