Where do I find durable toddler bed?

Our son is turning three and we want to move him into a big boy bed. We're thinking of skipping the toddler bed and getting a twin or full with storage or a day bed which can be his bed till he's a teenager. We're just having a hard time knowing where to start looking. We really don't want to have to spend countless hours shopping around! We're looking for good quality, no target or walmart, but also don't want to spend a fortune like at pottery barn even though we love the furniture. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Summary

Toddler furniture are available everywhere, from Craigslist, Target, Walmart to Pottery Barn, depends on how much you want to spend and budget, check out the article for other parent's choices.

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your input! We decided on IKEA! The beds are sooo cute and the best prices! Myles is super excited that he's getting his own grown up bed and told us he doesn't need his crib anymore but his baby sister does so this should be an easy transition. Have an awesome day! =)

I was in the same situation as you are in now exactly one year ago. I bought a Pottery Barn knock off (it is a twin size bed in the shape of a boat with a trundle/storage compartment underneath)from Costco at less than half the cost of Pottery Barn Kids. The only catch is you have to buy just the right mattress to fit or else little arms and feet can get caught between the wood sides of the bed. My son also has a scar from the melamine sided trundle. I have soft siding attached until he is a few years older. Very cute and high quality. Good luck!

I have a couple of friends who got their little boy's bed at Rooms To Go. The bed is really nice too and is a full size bed.

We got our son's dressers at Ashely Furniture. It's good quality and good prices. Real wood. Below is the link for the Frisco store. but they have locations throughout north Texas. We wanted furniture that would grow with our son. Good luck

Craigs list. We were able to find a day bed and trundle for $75 and then we bought mattresses from Ikea.

I would try looking at http://www.craigslist.com to see if anyone is selling one in the are in good condition. You can specify the state/area you want to look in and you can come across some really great deals. I got my son's crib from someone off of there for $40 and it is in mint condition and also his custom bedding($40) and future pottery barn boy bedding ($65). So, I would definintely take a look.
Email me if you have any questions.

I have a twin size Captain's bed purchased last year from Kids to Go for my college daughter who has only slept in it about 3 times. I spent over $1,100.00 for bed, matresses, matress pad, comforter and pillow/sham. Listed it on Craigslist for $700--moving and must sell immediately. Call ###-###-####. New, perfect for youth/teens.

We were able to skip directly from the crib to a twin bed when my daughter was a little over 1-1/2 (it was out of necessity to move her that early; we had another one on the way :) ). We were able to transition her several months before her little sister was born so that she wouldn't associate the two events. She transitioned REALLY well and loved her bed immediately. We picked a daybed so, even though it was bigger than her crib and she can now get into and out of it on her own, it still has the same cozy feel as a crib, but it will last her for years! We also love Pottery Barn, especially the Rustic Thomas collection, so that furniture line was our inspiration. We actually managed to find a bedroom set at Rooms To Go Kids that was VERY similar to that, half the price, and excellent quality. However, as a warning, that was probably their ONLY kids' furniture set that didn't have either flowers or some licensed cartoon character painted all over it...but that's what we did! Check out Rooms to Go or Roomstore.

Pier 1 Kids has great furniture (twin beds, bunk beds) that is really reasonably priced. Plus, they're going out of business, so everything is MAJORLY on sale right now. There's a store in Frisco. We bought our son's big boy furniture there about a month ago. The person we worked with is Shannon - I think she's a manager.

Hi A., check at Ikea. I have seen some really cute children's beds there. We got our little boy an antique Iron bed that is a double and he has loved it from day one! I think toddler beds are a waste of money because they just aren't in them very long! I hope that helps! Blessings, J.

We just got my step-daughter (2 1/2) and big girl bed at rooms to go outlet off of 820 and Hwy 26. Sometimes they have a super great selection and sometimes not so much but i have never had to go back more than twice to find what we wanted. Her bed was a white slated daybed that we got for $150 b/c the back panel was put on backward so we took it off turned it around and it's perfect. Just a suggestion. :)

A. I did the same thing with my son. I actually bought him a bunkbed set and we both loved it. You can go to the classifieds in the newspapers or go to craigslist.com (similiar to ebay, however it is for locals)and search for what you are looking for. I have not bought from there myself, but I have family who has and I am actually selling my sons bedroom set now...if interested let me know. Good Luck with your search!

We also have a daughter due in October, so we just had our two year old son move to a bed. We bought a full bed, nightstand & dresser set from Rooms To Go Kids. I think it was very reasonably priced & he will have this furniture throughout his childhood. We will return for another set when our daughter turns two. Our son transitioned beautifully & had no problems. In fact, he constantly wants to be in his room in his bed. Good luck! :)

We moved my boys straight from their cribs to twin beds that we got at JCPenny. I loved the Pottery Barn furniture too - but $1000 for a bed for a toddler (x2, I have twins) - NO THNANKS!
A friend of mine has a little boy that models for JCPenny and at one of his shoots she was told the furniture is the same company.
We ordered the beds, I LOVE them, they are great quality - and even better - I paid $250 a bed. The only negative, Frisco is the only store that carries furniture, and they don't have the childrens furniture on the floor so it was bought sight unseen.
Good Luck!

We put our son in a big boy bed when he was about 20 months old. We skipped the toddler bed altogether. We bought him a full size cherry sleigh bed that we hope lasts him to his teenage years from The Roomstore. It is really a very nice bed and I think I only paid about $175 for it. I bought the extra long bed rails from One Step Ahead and he loves his bed. It was a very simple transition. We originally were going to purchase the full on full bunk beds from Pottery Barn, but my pedi said I really shouldn't put him in a room alone with bunk beds until he is at least 4 or 5 - temptation to be a daredevil! Good luck...I know how hard it is to realize that your little ones are growing!

We moved my daughter into a big girl bed before she was even 2, and skipped the toddler bed altogether (I think they're a waste of money)! I also preferred Pottery Barn's selection, but didn't want to pay their prices. The best places I found were Pier One Imports for kids (in Frisco), Ashley Furniture (in Grapevine) and Rooms To Go for kids (in Grapevine). Good luck!

Depending on your style, IKEA is FANTASTIC and VERY inexpensive. Rooms to go Kids is convenient, but not as cheap and then there's your regular furniture stores if you want something more extravagant and nice. :)

Don't know if you're near an IKEA but we have a full size bed for our little one and it is great! The only draw back to IKEA is that you have to put it together yourself.. but you save on price that way and you don't sacrifice quality! Hope that helps!
Good luck!
