Can someone please recommend a good place to board my dog for 2 weeks? We live in Sterling Heights.
Our Beagle is 14 years old and we have never boarded him before. He has always stayed at home with a fence and a doggie door (and a neighbor feeding him) when we went on trips. Now we don't have a fence, so he can't let himself out when he needs to do his doggie business. We're going on a 2 week trip and will have to leave him at a kennel. I am really worried about it since he is so old and has never done this before, so I want a really good place to leave him.
Can someone also reassure me that he'll survive? I feel like a terrible dog mommy for leaving him.

I have been taking my dogs to Schramm's kennel for several years, they are very frindely, they train dogs and show dogs so they are definately dog people. They have play time for you dogs, grooming etc. if you need it. I have left my to labs there for two weeks and they have been fine. I have used other kennels and not had such friendly service. I put my dogs in the Madison Veterinary Hospital. They are a vet and also provide boarding. I feel better leaving my dogs' at a vet office. They also board the dogs in seperate kennel areas, which I like since I don't have to worry about fights with aggressive dogs. The office is located on 12 mile between John R and Dequindre.
A. ~ Well, i am not familiar with a kennel in your area, but I do have a girlfriend who is a dog sitter. Her name is Kelly and would either come to your house and watch him or she may even take him to her house. I have not had good luck at kennels so that is why I chose to have her come to my house and watch our dog, before he passed away. If you are interested, let me know and I will send you a message with her phone number.

I just used Janet and she was FABULOUS... not cheap, but she seriously walked our dogs 4x a day or more and showed us a new colar that WORKS so our dog doesn't pull anymore!

AHH I read the Sterling Heights part right before I hit reply.
My brother and sis in law sent their dogs to a place in SAINT CLAIR SHORES, called Doggie Day Care. GREAT PLACE.. And they have the dogs on a webcast... whenever the dogs were out of the kennels you could watch the dogs online. IT WAS GREAT! So, my family all watched their dogs while they were on vacation, it was neat!
My friend Hiedi has an ad on this site for pet sitting. It's under boarding and grooming. It's called Gregs's pet sitting. They are a great family. Greg is 10 and goes to school with my boys. He is a very sweet gentle boy. And Hiedi is a very loving what can I do for you type lady. They live in Lake Orion, that's about 30 minutes from Sterling Heights. I would definetly contact her before using a kennel. They have a nice, clean home and a fenced back yard. Good luck, D.
Kim's Grooming on Gratiot near 10 Mile boards a small number of dogs. Kim is a Christian and a very kind dog-lover. It's in Roseville. Don't have the number handy.

We take our dog to the Animal Activity Center in Clinton Twp. They are so good there. Before we even took him there to stay we made a surprise visit and they allowed us to walk all through their facility which was nice because it shows they have nothing to hide. Our dog loves going there when we go out of town. Very nice, neat and clean. They have a huge gym for the dogs to run around and they will take them out on a leash to do their business. It has been 8 years since I boarded mine but we are having to at the end of the month. I am taking them back to the place I originally took them after doing much checking. Pricing they can't be beat(at least for multiple dogs, not sure on 1) and I like the set up(dog run with 2 parts. 1 for sleep and one for bathroom). Here is their #:

You might want to do what I did and take a day to drive around getting tours. If any say they can't take you right away or you need an appointment, keep going! That is one thing to watch for in a bad kennel. They usually don't want spontaneous visitors for a reason! Type in kennels in the yellow pages and a bunch will pop up. Good luck and your pup will be fine.
