For those of you that remember, I know a mom and two teen kids that were evicted July 1st. For a while they lived in a tent by Lake Grapevine for a few weeks in July... then a church paid for them to stay in a Lewisville motel for a month. The month ran out.
CCA said she wasn't qualified for whatever help they offer. She's contacting the Texas Housing Authority and everyone she can to find help.
She can't afford to live in the motel... she only has a few more days till she gets kicked out of there. She doesn't have any money till the first week of next month to even look for a place to rent, and she hadn't found anyplace should could afford anyway.
Is there anywhere she can find to live for free or for really cheap, till she can get a place to rent? Her kids are teens, very well-behaved. One has a metabolic disorder the other has Asperger's autism. Where can she look? She wants to be in Denton... she's at a motel in Lewisville now.. the kids go to school up in Denton/Lake Dallas. Gas is an issue for her.
Where can she get help? Anyone know anyone renting out a 1 bedroom really cheap? A really cheap, but safe motel in Denton? Anything? An RV on a lot? I can vouch for their character, they are good people.
Sorry I haven't updated or contacted those of you who so kind to give me info and offer help, I got sick and couldn't do anything else.
A church in Denton has paid for a week at the motel for the homeless family. The mom talked to someone that knows of a beat up place for rent in Argyle and Friends of the Family (women's shelter group) said they'll help with the deposit... so please pray for her that it goes through.

You've been given some good places to start but I wanted to second what another mom posted. Definitely call the school counselors. When I was teaching, we helped a lot of families out. Counselors usually have tons of information and resources to help with this kind of thing.
There is a woman's shelter in Denton. I couldn't find the number for it, but you might try calling Woman to Woman Pregnancy in Denton ###-###-####) & they might be able to lead you in the right direction.
You might also try the food pantry at the Lake Cities United Methodist Church in Lake Dallas...they may have information on where she can go. The main # for the church is ###-###-####. I believe the pantry itself is only open on Tues & Thurs.
Also, if she hasn't already, she should contact a counselor at her children's school to see if they have any resources there.
Texas Workforce in Denton: ###-###-####. I don't know if they'd be any help, but you never know.
Hopefully, something will turn up...
She might want to try giving social services a call they may be able to place her temporary.
T., first of all I would like to say I commend you for trying to help your friend. I was in a similar situation and your friend might want to call the Salvation Army. I also second calling 211, as previously stated, also the children's school counselors can be a big help. You would be suprised at the things the school can do. If nothing else, they will give her community resourse numbers to call in her area. God Bless her and you, and I hope she finds the help she needs.
I can't think of exact names, but there should be family shelters somewhere in the area. Arlington has Mission Arlington/Life Shelter and there are women's shelters too. Call 211 (it is the United Way referral line) and they can give you some places for help.
