Which diaper brand has forgiving cut in the thigh and wont leak

Hi. I've been using Pampers Swaddlers with my 10 wk old baby girl. She's not a big baby (only 11 pounds), but the diaper seems to be too tight around her legs. They leave her with red elastic marks and I imagine they have to be uncomfortable. I tried going up to size 2's, but they are too big in the waist and still too tight in the leg. I don't want to start randomly trying different brands so I thought I'd ask if anyone else has had this experience? Is there a diaper with a more forgiving cut in the thigh that wont leak?

What can I do next?

Summary

Since not all diapers are the same size even though they all say size 1 or 2, you might have to try a few different brands to see which one fits your child best. Some moms found that Huggies Newborn size were slightly bigger than Pampers Swaddlers Newborn. But then in size 1, the reverse was true: Pampers were bigger and the Huggies were smaller! I have found that every diaper leaks once in a while, especially if it is not put on correctly. Some moms likes the generic brands from Costco, Sam's Club and babies r us as well. And some suggest cloth diaper as you can adjust the sizes.

I used the swaddlers with my son and loved them, but they didn't fit my daughter as well, for her I used the huggies supreme. they seem a bit better cut around the legs.

P.,
Re diaper fit- try the generic brands- they don't have as many gathers around the thighs. I used CVS' brand for both of my daughters- they worked well.

Hi P.! I too had the same problem. My daughter (about the same size) was also getting the red marks on the sides of her thighs. I didn't think I liked huggies but someone had given me a bag as a shower gift so I tried them out and I LOVE them! I've only tried the gentle fit so far but I don't really have reason to try anything else! I have to admit I don't really like the look of the diaper - too much print and sometimes shows through light clothing but if she's more comfortable than it's worth it! Hope that helps! Good luck!

When my son (now 5) was born, I received TONS of diapers as shower gifts. The best was that I got to try a bunch of different brands. LUVS was by far my favorite ~ comfy, no leaks, snug w/o pinching or digging. Ironically, before I had my son, I was one of those moms who laughed at the LUVS commercials ~ you know, live & learn & then get LUVS, but now I love them ~ they're the only thing I used at all with my daughter (almost 17 months).

every baby is different, so you will probably have to experiment. I never tried the swaddlers, but we tried regular pampers, huggies & luves. The Luvs diapers are the only ones of the 3 that my son did not leak with. He was a big baby & they worked great. He has fairly large thighs & luvs has never been a problem, but I didn't notice a thigh problem with the other 2 either, just a leaking problem.
Good luck.

I LOVED the Huggies brand diapers with Cuddleweave. I am still using Huggies, and I wish the Cuddleweave were in all the sizes, not just 1 and 2! I would def recommend them, they are great. I was not crazy about the Swaddlers because my son was small at birth (5lbs 14oz) and when they used them in the hospital the netting would stick to his skin because he had no heinie cheeks! Good luck and I hope you find something you like that fits well!

Huggies Supreme is all we use. (Except when they get older and have bedtime leaks, we add Huggies Overnights for bedtime.) They are soft (much more so than the regular Huggies) and super stretchy. We always had leaks straight up the back which were super messy and annoying. Huggies have fit my kids well without any pinching. They have lots of elastic at both the legs and waist to fit different shapes. The regular Huggies don't have so much elastic and definitely fit differently so be aware of that if others complain about Huggies - there are different styles which might as well be different brands.

Some brands make a size 1 and a half diaper. (I can't remember if it was huggies or pampers) They were great for that intermediate size stage, we bought them at Babies R Us.

Huggies makes a style of diaper called "natural fit" that actually have the legs cut out. They show commercials on the TV all the time (like you have time to watch) that show the "other brands" diapers on bricks because "unless your baby is a brick, those "other" diapers don't fit right."

Hi P.:
I have a daughter who is one today and she was a small baby too. Diapers were confusing for me at times too as a first time mom.
I found that Huggies Newborn size were slightly bigger than Pampers Swaddlers Newborn. But then in size 1, the reverse was true: Pampers were bigger and the Huggies were smaller! I have found that every diaper leaks once in a while, especially if it is not put on correctly or there is a lot of "filling!" Perhaps try making sure that the legs are snug but not tight around her thighs to aleviate the redness. (But also, it is summer, and with the heat, sometimes they just get irritated.) Or I would put A&D ointment on her thighs where the diaper rubbs. It helped with the chaffing too.

Hope that helps!

My favorites are Luvs and regular Pampers. Maybe you need to actually go down a size because you may be tightening the waist too tight. It's a learning process, so take your time, good luck, and above all, CONGRATULATIONS!!

Hey P.,
I have had the same problem with my daughter!!! Not all diapers are the same size even though they all say size 1 or 2. I have tried CVS brand, luvs, pampers, huggies, target. I do not like huggies for the same reason you don't like pampers. I notice that they are not as soft as the other brands either. I also don't like huggies because the gel in their diapers seems to "leak out" more than the others. (You can see little balls of gel when you change them, which I haven't noticed in other brands) I really like luvs and have used them as my night diapers. I moved her up to a size 3, even though she's a size 2. The tabs just have to be almost touching in the front and lower than where they are suppose to be. There hasn't been a problem with leaks. I have found that I like different brands at different sizes. Right now I am using a box of pampers size 3 and they work great!! (but I didn't like pampers in the smaller sizes!) I haven't used luvs size 3 yet. But when she was around your girl's size, I loved them. I didn't have problems with target or CVS brands either. Just by a small package and keep trying!!!! Good Luck!!

Hi P.,
You will most likely have to try a few brands to see which fit best, and that brand may change as she gets older. Just wanted to add my endorsement of ALDI's "Nanny's" diapers. They are so soft--they feel like cloth. I loved them!

Try huggies. They didnt work for my son for the opposite reason - fit arount the waist but the leg holes were too big, whereas pampers fit him perfectly. Might work for you :)

We have a 10 month old and although did not have a problem with tightness at the thigh did have to experiment with many brands due to ill fitting in the thighs ano leaks depending on age. We have settled on membersmark from sams club---she is now 10 months. They seem to be pretty roomy in the thighs but not so much that they leak.

We also had good luck with target, luvs and some pampers. We just bought small quantities of each one to try and it seems everyone I know has had to experiment b/c every baby is proportioned different.

The members mark to me were the most roomy in the thigh. You might want to get the larger size to try first b/c I have gotten away with them on my daughter when she was technically to small for them. I don't know is sams club could hook you up with a few sample sizes or even the other companies before buying. I did have a sample of luvs at one point from somewhere. Maybe worth checking. Good luck!

Out of all of the diapers that I buy...The ones that I think work the best are from Whole Foods. They are just a generic store brand. They have no chemicals, no inks, no funny odors. They are just a plain white old fashioned diaper. I have not had a problem with the elastic. They runn about 10.99 a bag. I buy them for our infant as well as our toddler.

look at the weight of the diapers when looking at the sizes. i would try a different brand also. you need to get the ones that are expandable in the legs. try looking at huggies and see some of the features. i had good luck with those when my son was your daughter's age. good luck.

I have used about every diaper there is....brand name and store brand. I tried the swaddlers on my daughter as well and did not like the fit. I have found the regular basic Pampers to be the best and for store brand, Target. Not sure where you live, but Rite Aid Brand at that age is not bad, it is soft and not restrictive. I used them for a few months at that age.

Good Luck!

My son is now 16 months and we absolutely LOVED the Pampers Swaddlers and were sad when he grew larger than their sizes allowed for. He was a big baby and still is and I know we never had an issue with the leg fit. They are so soft for a newborn.

We also use the Pampers Baby Dry and Cruisers, I would try those.

Im sorry you are having this dilemma.

Hi P.,

I was never a fan of the pampers swaddlers. I actually liked the Babies R Us brand diapers best - they are called Especially for Baby and can be purchased at Babies R Us or Toys are Us.
