Which Formula Is Best - Chicago,IL

With my 1st she was on Enfamil which made her very constipated so we had to give her a little watered down apple juice everyday. With my 2nd I started using Similac that gave him a lot of gas so we tried the Similac gentleease which did not help; it even has an aweful sower smell to it. We finally tried Nestle Good Start and stuck with it. I recommend trying one formula at a time for at least a week.

Someone told my friend that it was like changing brands of milk, and her angel baby went to screaming in pain all the time baby. if you want to switch it up, try mixing them together, starting with mostly the one you currently use and gradually use more and more of the new formula so that her system can get used to it.

We used Similac, which our daughter did great on, my sister in law used Good Start, which worked great on her daughter, and my cousin's baby is thriving on the Target brand. It doesnt really matter what brand, as they are all very similar.

Yes!!! Don't listen to the posters who said it doesn't make a difference because it does! I don't think what you did (enfamil to similac and then back to enfamil) will make that much of a difference though. Just don't make it a habit. Also, you shouldn't switch the types of formula either. Ie. regular, soy, hypoallergenic. And by the way-sounds like your baby might need to use the Nutramigen or Allimentum....they are hypoallergenic formula's...and very pricey. I know, my daughter was on Similac Allimentum but it worked wonders!!! Talk to your doctor about it. I wish you luck - I am sure everything will get figured out. :)

It's not harmful, but it's not the best for her either. Her little system takes some time to adjust to each one. Nutritionally they're all pretty much the same, but they "land" differently in the tummy. My son did best on Good Start, but you just need to find whatever works for you. If you do think your baby is having a hard time with whatever brand of formula, stick with it for 7 days unless it's making her really sick. Same thing for any subsequent switch. Good luck.

I saw that your doc had you switch because of tummy problems. It's going to take a few days to see any change, so giving her the gentle ease 3 times isn't going to make much of a difference. I would stick with that for at least 6 days and then if it doesn't make a difference, switch back.

I had both my kids on GoodStart. If you do your research, you'll find GoodStart puts their money in research, not advertisements (as the other 2 companies do). All 3 are good, but it depends on how your daughter does. GoodStart also gives the biggest checks back to help offset the cost of the formula.

I would avoid Soy. Soy has a lot of female hormones added to it, so much that It's like an adult taking 5 birth control pills.

You can go with generic formula too, but do you research and figure out which company makes it and what kind of testing they do. You may think you are saving money by going generic, but you need to add a bigger scoop of formula, so you really aren't getting more.

For me, GoodStart was the easier on my babies’ bellies.

No, but I would not switch it up every feeding either. Try to pick the one you like best and stick with it.

No, it should not be a problem unless you're consistently changing. We would choose for our daughter based upon which coupon we had until we finally ended-up with Costco's because it was so much cheaper.

But, each formula is made slightly differently, so she may do great on one and not so great on another.
