Who's Coming to Your Thanksgiving Table?

Another mom responded to a question with the fact that her son and his gf would be at her house for Thanksgiving week and it made me smile. Memories! My mom has always been the person to take in anyone who had no where to go.

I am one of 5, so at a minimum there were 7 of us. But normally it was closer to 12, if not more! We always had guests over. When we were teenagers, we had a lot of friends who were in the Navy and couldn't go home. Really anyone extra that would come was at our house.

Now that I'm grown, it's mainly my family...maybe because my kids are still young and their friends are with their families...but my family comes to my house.

Who comes to your table? (I say table because it might not be at your house, you might travel too!)

Oh - and if we go to my husband's family, they rent out a banquet hall and the whole family comes together....about 50 people minimum.

What can I do next?

Ours is pretty much the same every year. Our family (hubby, 2 kids), my mom and my dad, and we host two area soldiers who don't have family in San Antonio. Some years we have had more, but this year two is all we can afford with a tightened budget.

Happy Holidays!

most years, Thanksgiving is at our house....because then the women/kids head on to Branson & Silver Dollar City for the rest of the wkend. & my DH dog sits our dogs + my sister's dog. Works perfect.

This year, my Gma (who's 90) is not up to traveling to my cousin's house where she's been going when we travel. My Mom is also feeling the angst of losing her own Mom....so Thanksgiving has been moved to my Mom's house so Gma can be there.

We will be 10 around the table....unless my cousin's family is there. Then we'll be hitting closer to 20. All very good things!

We always do a craft project at Thanksgiving....but this year, the whole crew is going to decorate my Mom's house inside/out for Christmas. She lives in an historic village on the Mississippi River & the village has a "Hanging of the Greens" each year. Normally she does the work all by herself....but this year - she'll have lots of help! Another very good thing!

Oh, & I get the whole renting a hall thing. My ILs are at 35 for our gatherings, with just a handful of kids married. When all is said & done, we'll be needing a hall! We still have 15 singles.....& the next generation coming up behind them!

It is our tradition to have any friends over who have no place to go. We don't live anywhere near family so this has been going on for 18 years now! We did this starting in grad school and would get huge groups of all the grad students and their significant others. This year we have friends coming who moved with their young child to NM from NYC. And we have some international friends who moved here last year from Italy who are also coming. This will be a very small crowd compared to past years but I'm looking forward to that! :) We got married on Thanksgiving so it is our anniversary too...it's my all time favorite holiday! Yay!!!

That sounds neat. Growing up, we went to my great aunt's house in TX and people from CO, TX, LA, and AL all came together for that one day. So much fun. Loads of people. The men ate in one room (with the football game), the women ate in another room (catching up), we kids ate outside on the picnic tables where we just nibbled while playing in the barn, pecan picking, or just running the yard, and the teens/young adults all gathered on the front porch and went for a long walk afterwards. But then everyone got old, passed away, moved further away, started their new families, etc. I miss those days. In the past few years, my new little family would be just us and a friend who is single and practically family. But now we're in a new state, so it'll just be the 4 of us, unless my dad ends up bringing his family up. Looking forward to it. Small, but it should be fun.

My bf, our 3 children, oldest son's gf, bf's sister, bf's brother, bf's nephew, bf's father and his wife. Usually my bf's ex-wife, her bf and their daughter come too but they will be out of town. I love my "modern" family. We go to my cousin's house for dessert with all my other cousins, their kids, aunts, uncles, and immediate family. Good times.

We have a blended family so our kids will be at our exs on Tgiving day. I will be cooking Tgiving for us on the Saturday after when we are all together again. My aunt and cousin and old family friend will drive out from CA, they stay with my mom. the 4 of them will come to my house with me, hubby and our 3 kids. and I think 2 of my friends will come over as well. I have a very small family so I like to invite anyone to come over that may not have anywhere else to go.

We recently moved about 5 hours drive from everyone due to the wifes new job. Soooo... we decided to have it at our home (a first) this year. It will be myself, wife, her two children, my mom and dad, real good friends of ours back home and their two daughters. We are so happy and thankful they will be coming to our home.

Wow I think that's great to rent a hall and have the whole family. What a neat idea. We use to have lots and lots of people but now it changes from year to year because of adult kids going to in laws or whatever, last year I went up north and had the holiday with my daughter and her family. This year we're having 10 at our table. I love it, just hope I can handle all the work.

Everything is different this year. My daughters took over thanksgiving a couple years ago. But the oldest is having it with her future in-laws. My 2nd daughter will be in California as usual. My 3rd daughter is having us go to her future in-laws...to meet them. YIKES. You girls that are moaning about potty training and tantrums have no idea what it's going to feel like to have adult daughters to try and keep up with. :) Soo... I'm getting up early and making the turkey and trimmings at my house and will put it all away for our own leftovers after we come back from the future inlaws.

it will be hosted at my house this year so it will be my normal household of 4 and 2 dogs, my sister her husband two children 2 dogs, and my other sister possibly her husband (depends on his work schedule he travels) and her two children and 1 dog so all in all 11 possibly 12 people and 5 dogs all in a 1500 square foot house. It will be chaos but a good choas.
