Winter Boots for Son with the "Square" Foot.

I get my daughters wide shoes at Zappos.com they also sell boots and they have free overnight shipping I would try them. Hope this helps.

They usually get Stride RIte shoes as well.
We get all of our shoes and boots from Peterson Shoes in Dowtown Anoka - they will fit your son with the proper shoe or boot. Kamik is a boot brand that my older boys got last year there (boys 4 and 7) I would go and talk to Sandy or Michelle they have both been fitting kids feet for a very long time. They will get your son into the right boots for his feet. HIghly recommended.

Nordstrom at the MOA and The Shoe Zoo, an independent shop located on Hennepin Avenue in Uptown Minneapolis, are your best bets for a staff which is well trained at properly fitting your child with the appropriate shoe sizes.

Have you tried the Stride Rite boots on him yet? I have two boys who also have pretty wide feet and when I talked to the sales lady at Stride Rite she said that although the width of boots say medium they are actually quite a bit wider than other boots out there so you might want to go in and actually try them on to see if they might be a good fit for him. I totally feel for you, its kind of aggravating to fit these kids with wide feet and a lot more costly although we have had great success with StrideRite and even though there prices are quite a bit higher than what I would get at Target the shoes are great quality, end up looking great for along time and last really well. My husband recently bought New Balance shoes in Wide for my son so you could try a store that carries New Balance.

My son has wide feet and he wears Stride Rite as well. Last winter when was 15-19 months he wore the Stride Rite boots and they were plenty wide. I would try those. We also had a pair of Sorrel as well, and they fit fine too. Boots are made wider so you can wear heavier socks, etc. My son really was not out in his boots much at that age though. I got both boots on e-bay and saved some money. It worked out well though. And I agree that Peterson's Shoes in Anoka is awesome. We've had Michelle help us and she knows her stuff. I've also heard good things about Schuler Shoes in Maple Grove and I think they have other locations. Now that my son is 2 his feet are narrowing, so hopefully you'll not have this challenge forever either. GOod luck!

I'd order them online. Manytimes, they offer more sizes, colors, etc...online than in the stores. You pay more, but you get exactly what you want. Good luck. :)

I noticed someone mentioned buying online. The online show store that I buy from is called Zappos. I am not sure how wide their widths go but they have a huge selection and I am guessing they carry almost all widths. Good luck.

My daughter also had to go to Stride Rite for shoes 1-2 years old. 5 Double Wides LOL special ordered. She was a fat chunky baby with big ole fat feet. I never had a problem with boots fitting though. Have you tried a random boot at like Target or something because I had no problem with boots.I just went a size bigger. If Stride Rite doesn't have a boot I have no idea where you would go. I was glad to finally find shoes there or my poor daughter would have gone barefoot or with slippers.

Now my daughter is 6, and skinny with nice normal skinny feet and I can buy her shoes anywhere now. The little things we appreciate in life.

If you can't find boots I wouldn't make a big deal over it. My daughter used her boots maybe 3x that winter when she was first walking (also a August baby). She hasn't really got a good use out of boots til like 3 or 4 years old. And even then at the end of the season they still looked new.

We too have had good luck with the Stride Rite shoes for our little guy's wide feet. Umi and Primigi brand shoes also work well, although they can get spendy. Nordstrom and Shoe Zoo have a great selection. One other place with less variety but many good choices is The Foursome Shoes in Wayzata. I personally would wait a little while to buy him winter boots. There will be more styles to pick from in another month. Last winter the Cougar brand snow boots fit well. We got those at Macy's.

My son's feet are also XW, and when he was your son's age we called him "Fred Flintstone" because he had these blocks for feet! Anyway, when he was your son's age we went through the same thing and the lady who fitted him at Stride Rite (where we ALWAYS had to go to get shoes wide enough) said that the wide or regular boots would be just fine. For one thing, they aren't as contoured or fitted as regular shoes, so they are much roomier. Also, because they're meant for walking on snow or uneven winter surfaces (for shorter periods of time), it's not as imperative that they be the same type of fit as a walking show, where they could actually affect the foot's development. Comfort and warmth are key, so if the SR ones fit, I'd go with it.

My Daughter had super wide feet too and the Target ones were too narrow so we went with Stride Rite as well :) I would try them and see if they work.

And now my Daughter is six and has very narrow feet....go figure!
