I want to let you know that I just looked up elance.com and it is BBB accredited and it has an A+. I'm definately going to try it out. And you can choose the first option which is free.
does anyone know if there are any work at home offers that are legit? I have been laid off and have had some devastating health information for me and my daughter and I needed to know if anyone can help me with locating any work at home or starting a business. Anything I'm having to deal with a lot with all of these health issues and having to purchase alot of hime units and try and pay for all the other bills. Let meknow if anyone has any advice or suggestions. Thank you very much.

elance.com is a freelance website for everything from admin and data entry to marketing and design. You name it, it's on there. I found out about it from the Kim Kommando radio show. If you go to her website she has a page all about working from home and gives some legit sites that she's checked out and verifies. I looked at them all, but elance.com was the one I personally liked the best. I haven't used it yet, but probably will start in the next month or so since I just quit my job to move to back to MS and be a SAHM and I'd still like to bring in a few dollars when I can.

I posted this awhile back for someone else....
I posted these to a friend before. Been there and try to help others. They are ligitimate and not parties:p
This site posts some stuff...

There is a lot available if you know how to use the internet and have a phone line:)
also womenforhire.com has a lot of tips and then here are some customer service jobs online that are legit...
alpineaccess.com or westathome.com (supposedly most of these make $8-14 an hour).
two more for you--if you are fast at typing go to www.GMRTranscription.com to transcribe interviews and speeches into text (75 words per min. min. but you get up to $500 a week)
teamdoubleclick.com to be virtual assistant ($12-25 per hour) working at home making appts., fielding calls, typing letters, bookkeeping, etc. Ok hope this helps....I was there once:) Please let me know if you have questions. I found an online tutoring job (as a teacher at home with my kids) and love it. Although since then I started tutoring in-home and started my own business as well.

Another option is saving more money. I go to many local blogs and get deals for grocery stores. I spend usually about $100 a week on average for a family of 5 (including personal items and diapers/pull ups for 3 young kids). I think that is pretty good. There are also a ton of research group companies in this area that you can sign up and do a focus group survey for cash. I have a ton of ideas. Send me a message if you have specific questions or want more ideas. I'm in Palatine and happy to help!
I was in a similar situation to you. I was laid off, while pregnant with our second daughter. I found a part time job so that I could stay home with my oldest, babysit, and work afternoons and weekends. Because I was already pregnant I had to go on Cobra insurance and it was soooo expensive. Babysitting full time was just going to that payment each month!
Then in Jan (I had my daughter in March) the place I was working part time, closed. We had NO warning. It was a gym, we got a phone call on Jan. 2, not to come to work on the 3rd. They were closeing down.
Anyway it was impossible to find a job at 7 + months pregnant. I was searching for alternatives to health insurance when I found Ameriplan. I am now an IBO for them. It saves us TONS of money and I'm able to make a little bit extra for my family during naps and bed time. I am still working to build it up and put more time and energy into my business so that I can hopefully replace a full time income and help my husband to go back to school. PM me if you would like more information, I know how challenging it is to find something from home that actually makes an income, I can help you!!!
I don't have any offers; I just wanted to say that I will be praying for you and your daughter! I am sorry to hear how difficult things are, and that when I have been in difficult places, I find prayer (my own and others joining with me) a comfort.
I have been working from home for 5 years now. I LOVE it.

Angie, here is the bottom line, you have to do something you are passionate about. Working from home is not easy. It is simple, but not easy. You have to be your own motivation, your own cheering squad and your own support. I picked my company because it is about health and wellness, something I am totally passionate about. I LOVE what I do, working with families to improve their lives simply and effectively.
If I can be of any assistance, please let me know. My passion is helping moms just like you.
BTW - two of my team members have come to me from this site. Perhaps you will be the third.
Dr Laura had a section about working from home. I don't know how helpful it is but you can look at it.
I have a work at home business that adds to our income. I work on the phone and internet choosing my own business hours. I don't sell products, stock anything, pass out catalogues, collect money, do parties or deliver anything! There are a lot of scams, big investments and just plain garbage when looking. There are very few online jobs that will replace an income, most will pay less than minimum wage. Businesses will have a start up cost, ours is only $29. Send me a private message if you are interested in learning more, I really don't want to sound like a commercial and you will likely get lots of responses on here.

NOT sure exactly but wishing you luck. I have heard of people doing medical coding which requires a possible school experience.
There is a site and product that changed my life. Please review, this could be the solution to both of your issues. Give me a call if you have any questions.

If you have anything like IT, editing, medical coding, legal experience yes then there are legit work at home jobs. Please be wary of anything that requires you to give anything other than a resume to get their job, like a down payment or purchase of a kit or software to get you started. Home daycare can bring in money but no health insurance, but not alot. It could keep you afloat, but if you or a child are having health issues that may not be a possibility. You may also want to check into places that have health insurance for part timers if you can do a part time as the difference in that and cobra is huge and type of care is also huge. I would not do anything that is a product selling that require your investment as you sound already strapped and you don't want to end up with a lifetime supply of cleaning product or powdered dip mix.
Good luck to you and your family.
I actually do public relations from home. If you are a good writer and have great communication skills, there are folks always looking for freelancers. If you don't have previous PR experience, you may still get to charge between $15-25/hour. You would need to potentially brainstorm marketing ideas (and companies are constantly looking to market to Moms so who better to come up with ideas that resonate!), write press releases and call media outlets (newspaper editors, news producers) to pitch your story. I would recommend writing a resume that focuses on any communications/marketing classes you may have previously taken, any PR you may have done yourself (for example, have you helped publicize a 5K, your child's school) and then post on Linked In or send to PR agencies in your area, emphasizing how you can help companies reach Moms. As you gain more experience, you can make more money. I'm not saying this is easy - you may need to invest some time to learn the trade, but you can make decent, legitimate money with flexible hours. I'm happy to chat with you more if you want to shoot me a message here. Good luck!
Some good advice here...and Barb A. is right on when she tells you to be wary of anything asking you to buy their software or start up kits...I actually got suckered into that and lost a couple hundred dollars. I now do home daycare...and it is decent money and a rewarding job, for sure. And you can buy short term insurance and it is actually reasonable, until you can find something more permanent. (I am married, so that isn't an issue for me, hubs carries our insurance.) Depending on what health issues you have, daycare may not be for you. It is very time consuming (up to 12 hours a day) and demands a lot from you and your family. Depending on the age and issues w/ your daughter though, it may be something to think about. Best of luck to you in whatever you are able to find that works for you and your family...sorry I couldn't give you a more concrete direction!
