You'd Think It Is Common Sense but Apparently Not...(for Me at Least!)

How often do you apply/reapply deodorant?

I always got on my husband because he would put it on after his shower, than again in the morning, maybe even when he changed clothes. It was to the point where there used to be deodorant stains with sparkles on his shirts. (Although he never smelled!)

I used to be able to apply it out of the shower and that was it. As I am getting older (and I suppose my hormones are changing) I sometimes think I smell and need to reapply. So should I teach this old dog a new trick (and concede my husband was right all along? LOL

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

ETA - I hope that this is not crossing the TMI line but I only notice it from one arm pit so I'm not sure it is brand failure. I also have to say that up until a few years ago I NEVER sweat. Now it has to be either VERY hot or I have to run in hot weather to really break a sweat. I questioned the doctor and he said it was A-G-E (I thought it was something like allergies and iGes...boy was my face red when I realized he was trying to politely tell me I am getting OLD!)

Usually, I go shower to shower (I shower in the mornings). And I've made a rule about only using a stick one. Not an aerosol.

Sometimes, when I do any hustling work, cleaning work, work-out, outdoorsy work in hot/humid climate, I sweat more than normal. In such cases, I freshen up a bit afterwards with a little deo. :)

So, I let my body and sweat guide my usage.

I'm hormonal and went through three t-shirts yesterday. Applied a crystal deodorant after showering (usually works fine all day), but then needed a boost with some Toms Lavender deodorant later. I think it is hormones!

I wouldn't say your husband was right or wrong-- as long as he didn't reek of deodorant and it worked for him, c'est la vie, n'est pas?

I only apply it once a day after my shower (again if I shower after going in the pool), but I use deodorant crystals not the regular stuff. One application works all day.

I would never keep applying the regular deodorants because of the aluminum content. IMHO I think that the over use of these products is what is causing so many cases of breast cancer in both men and women. Aluminum causes cancer and since the regular deodorants stop the sweat from coming out it also clogs the pours and stays in your body.

Some people just need more deodorant than others. I've never noticed a direction on a deodorant container saying you must apply four times a day, or that you must not, either.

So I figure it's a matter of what you think you need and what you're comfortable with.

I apply more often in the summer, and I always reapply after a shower or after I've worked out. I don't use the stuff with the aluminum in it, so I think I'm being pretty safe.

So you can perhaps give your husband a break and say, "I'm using more than I used to, so perhaps you're not quite so crazy after all!"

I only apply it once in the morning, after my shower. That's good enough for all day. If I find I'm stinky during the day, then it's time to switch brands. You do have to do that now & then, as your body gets "used to" the chemistry of a certain brand.

Same for my husband.

Each person is different. My wife applies deodorant once every two or three days and doesn't stink. If I miss a day, I begin to smell. We are both allergic to the antiperspirant deodorants.

My wife usually takes a shower twice or three times per week, but rarely goes as far as 4 days. I shower every other day, occasionally waiting three days.

Good luck to you and yours.

I apply in the morning and after any extra shower. On occasion there is pit failure, you know when you have pit failure, you catch the wiff? Then I reapply.

What your husband does is not common sense what you are doing is. Reapply when it is necessary.

Once a day for me, but my teen son sure did need some help - whew!

I took him to the dermatologist for warts on his feet and asked him about it while I had him there. He told me to get the clinical Degree at the drug store (Target sells it too I think), as it used to be prescription strength. He told me to have him use it after his shower in the morning, and then have him wash at night and apply it at night. He said it would help and he was right.

Only once right after a shower until the next time I shower, unless it's been less than 24 hours since the last shower and I wasn't dripping with sweat. I don't like it to feel pasty so I don't tend to apply and then reapply a lot because it does stain clothes and it gets pasty, but also because I don't like that "seeps into the skin feeling" of the paste. I like one nice clean layer.

If I have "pit failure" ha ha ha ha then I typically feel like I need a fresh shower anyway. I scrub away the old so that I can reapply the new.

Every month I go a couple of days (showering of course) without using deodorant to give the pits time to breath.

In the US, I think it's pretty standard operating procedure to bathe/shower daily. Unless your spouse or you is into that funky stuff! LOL
I go shower to shower (daily) with deodorant.
But everyone's body is different, so if your deodorant needs a mid day "boost" go for it!

I have to say this post and some responses, really made me chuckle...thanks!

With Mitchem... I can USUALLY cheat and apply every other day if I'm being a slug. :) :) :) Meant in a good way, of course! Even showering or swimming, I'm usually good unless I take a wash cloth and scrub it all off.

If I'm being active, I apply every time I shower. Which can be as often as 3-4x per day, or as little as 2x per day.

IF HOWEVER I'm using "natural" deodorant (not the crystal which is pure 'active ingredient' in standard deodorant that only has about 10% of the active ingredient, but Jason/etc.)... Then I have to reapply AT LEAST every single time I pee. Which is about once an hour. And that's if I'm sitting around being a slug.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer for this. When DH was still doing physical labor he would reapply several times - since he was sweating a bunch - now he sits in an office all day, so once a day after the shower is fine.
I usually apply once a day, though I go without on some days. I don't sweat a lot and just don't get very stinky (yay, lucky me).
However if I have a good run or exhausting workout I might have to apply twice: right after the shower and a couple of hours later for the "afterburn".
I would say deodorant should be applied as needed.

It depends on the person. I apply once every 24 hours or as needed. If you think you smell, have you also considered a different deoderant? A roommate in college needed to swap brands every few months.

I'm just like you. I know this must seem weird/very uncommon to most, but until very recently, I just never did sweat. The only exceptions to this were sweating during a really intense workout or doing gardening/yard work in the blistering desert heat. On a regular, every day basis, I just didn't sweat. I asked my husband, just to be sure I wasn't immune to my own scent....but got the "all is well" verification from him, so never used deodorant.

UNTIL recently....to my horror and surprise, I started to experience this weird underarm feeling when I'm doing absolutely Nothing! I'm just standing around and all of a sudden feel little these little beads of sweat! Not happy! I'll be 50 at the end of this year, so things are changing, I guess. Not really looking forward to all this.....

Anyway, I recently got some natural deodorant, and then last week found a really great smelling DO/AP without aluminum at a department store. So, now it's a new thing to add to the morning routine after showering. Once a day has been enough, so far. I guess I'll have to wait and see if the whole re-application thing is necessary as time goes on.

Oh, the joys of aging! At least I know I'm not the only one!

I shower at night so thats when I put it on and then sometimes I apply in the morning just in case overnight I got stinky. I can apply it every other day really and my pits don't stink. I don't sweat that often even on an extreme hot day.

Every once in awhile I am pretty sure I stink and sometimes I really really do so I reapply or shower depending on where I'm at.
