Dealing with Dog and Baby

I am having a very very difficult time with my husband's dog. We've been together for 7 years, and the dog was never really a problem until I had a baby. I should say I put up with him. My daughter is now 16 months old and every day with the dog is a battle. It is driving me insane. My husband loves his dog and we argue every time I bring it up because he is so sensitive about the topic. I am having fantasies about moving out because of the dog. He barks really loudly alot of the time, is constantly scratching at the door to be let...

Preparing Children For/coping with Impending Death of Grandma/mom from Cancer

How have you dealt with caring for a parent struggling with terminal cancer (or any illness, for that matter) and helping your children prepare for their death? How did you cope with strong emotions? How do you balance your life: work, caring for husband, children, parents, schoolwork, church service, etc.? I have four siblings who share in my mom's care (dispensing meds, walking with her to the bathroom, making meals, visiting, taking her to treatments, relieving my dad so he can go to the store, etc.) but we are all at odds...

What Kind of Dog Should We Get?

Hi there... We have two daughters that are 5 and 3. Both are great with animals: patient, gentle, don't pull tails, etc. However, we have a 14 year old active male cat who is the boss of the house. We want to get another pet (preferably a dog), but are unsure of what type to get. We've looked at the different shelters around and PAWS would like to adopt. AH! Any help would be great!! *We watch a neighbor's Golden Retriever during the day (and sometimes for a few days) while she works. He's adopted us as his surrogate family and the...

Gift for 2 Yr Old in Hospital

My best friend's 2 year old is having surgery on the base of his skull this week (for Arnold Kiera Malformation). He will be in ICU for several days and in a regular room for a week or so after that. They live out of state and I am trying to think of something I could send him to make his hospital stay a little less awful. I thought a basket of snacks for the parents would be great or some balloons to brighten his room. Any ideas? Thanks!
