Safety Gate: Safety 1St Perfect Fit or the First Years Everwhere Gate

I'm buying a gate to go into my daughter's bedroom door, as we're moving her into a bed in the next couple weeks and I want to "gate" her door. I want it to be pressure mounted. I'm trying to decide between the Safety 1st Perfect Fit or The First Years Everywhere Gate (found both on Target website). Both are plastic with a translucent panel so she can't climb the gate. My key question is how easy is the pressure mounted function? Is it fairly easy to put up and take down the gate each time I enter and exit her room? Does anyone...

Why Are You Still Breastfeeding?

**I'm not bashing either formula feeding or nursing just a discussion** Are you bottle or breastfeeding? I answer "breastfeeding" and I always get "Why!?" or "How are you still breastfeeding?" I only know a handful of mothers but all with the exception of my aunt (different generation) never nursed past 3 months. Same thing as women I meet or speak with in the baby aisles at the store. It really seems as if most women hate, can not, or will not breastfeed. But why? If you can breastfeed (no medical conditions) why then choose formula?...

Infant with Kidney Stones

I was just wondering if any of you moms have dealt with this or are dealing with an infant with kidney stones? My 6 1/2 month old son has kidney stones and we also just recently found out he was born with only one kidney. We dont know why he has the stones. He has gone to the childrens hospital in Pittsburgh for urine and blood tests and hopefully we will find out March 3rd what is causing the stones. It could either be something in his blood (which would be ok because they can be treated with meds) or a certain condition which would mean...

Infant Not Nursing Well

My son was born 4 weeks ago (at 37.5 weeks--so he was a little early, but fine). I am having a terrible time nursing despite advice from nurses and lactation consultants. any help would be appreciated. I'm feeding on demand--he started out on a 3 hour "schedule" with one 4-6 hour night period and a few 1-1/5 hour morning periods--since his growth spurt at 3 weeks he has been on a 2-3 hour "schedule" with the occasional 4-5 hour period at random times. The lactation consultant weighed him before and after a feeding (at about 2 weeks)...

Is First Years or Evenflo Breast Pumps Any Good?

When my son and daughter were born premature, the WIC offices where I lived provided a motorized Medella pump supplied from a medical supply store. Obviously this was very good. I know that Medellas are sold in Target but I also seen other brands. Is there an "off" brand ie, Evenflo, First Years, etc. that is comparable but without the price??

Worried About My Son's Weight Gain

My son will be 13 months old next week and weighs almost 19 pounds and is 31 inches long. He is only 5th percentile for weight. My worry is that he hasn't put on much weight past couple months.I think he was 18 pounds at 10 months. He is eating fine (mostly baby food) and is breastfed. He wasn't a very chubby baby but he looks thinner ever since he started crawling/cruising. We did travel a lot last month , so maybe that's why he didn't gain much. He is super active high energy baby , so whatever calories he takes he spends all that and...

My Toddler Is Extremely Picky Eater!

My 2.5 year old son is a picky eater. My husband and I are SO frustrated! Our problem lately is that we are trying to be more consistent with having "family dinners" at the table, with the goal of getting him to try new things. We always encourage him in a positive way to just take one bite or just "try it". However, most of the nights we try this, he won't eat anything and then he whines and complains and gets up from the table, but then hangs around the table and begs for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Even though we hate to see him...

Baby Wont Eat!

My baby is 11 months, and she just don't to eat most of her solid food. She would eat oatmeal and some pure food, but is really a fight. As soon as I put her in her chair she start crying. I use to "entretein" her by reading her a book and showing her the pictures, and dancing/singing and sometimes it would take my husband, my older daughter and me to get her enough entreteined so she doesn't notice she is eating. I came to the conclucion that maybe is not good idea get her use to that. Now I am trying to feed her without the diner...

Solid Food Advice

Hi, I am a mom to twin 6 month olds and we have just begun solid foods after being exclusively breastfed. My son is a champ and loves anything I give him, however I am having problems with my daughter. She cries and screams anytime I try to feed her solid foods, basically just refusing to eat; then when I pick her up she roots and roots to be nursed because she is hungry. The Dr. told me to make sure to feed her real food but it's just been a battle. Has this happened to anyone? Can you tell me how to get her to eat and not rely on...

DHA Supplement with Prenatal Vitamins?

I was talking to my sister in law and she said that on top of the prenatal vitamins a pregnant woman should also take a DHA supplement along with it. I did some research and those DHA supplement can be pretty pricey. Just want to ask fellow mamas out there if it is necessary to take DHA supplement with prenatal vitamins during pregnancy. Thanks.
