12 Year Old DD Embarrassed About Sweating So Much at Cheer

My 12 year old just started a cheer camp to prep her for cheer try-outs when she gets to Jr. High. They are hard on the girls (1 hr. hard workouts). She loves it, but is exhausted and complaining that she sweats more than anyone there. I think she actually just works harder than any of the girls, but she is embarrassed about it. Are there tips to keep her from sweating so much? Do they make face deodarant? Lol. I told her that she just needs to work on her endurance.

What can I do next?

Does she wear clothes like Nike dri fit. That wick sweat away. Also Nike dri fit socks are great too! They sell the socks at finish line really worth the extra money to keep the feet cool and comfy.

Here are a few tips:

She should wear all cotton socks. They will help her feet breathe, which will in turn cool her off. Go for sport socks. Make sure she has shoes that let her feet breathe too.

Cotton underwear.

Airy clothes. Avoid spandex. Again, clothes that will help her body breathe--so COTTON! And tank top.

She should bring a towel to wipe her face off.

She should wear her hair up off her neck.

AVOID SUGAR. Sugar makes you sweat more! She should not drink pop or any sugary things before practice. Plain water.

Hope that helps! And good luck to her at tryouts!

You do not want her to sweat less. Sweating is your body's way of cooling itself and avoiding overheating. If she sweats heavily, it's because that's what it takes to cool her body down.
Do NOT let her use an anti-perspirant. Deliberately blocking your sweat glands is NOT a good idea.A deodorant under her arms is fine, but not an anti-persprant - and deodorant should ever be applied to her face.

Some people just sweat more.
My family is a bunch of sweaty yetti's.
When I was in Jr. High I couldn't stop the sweat. It didn't matter what I was doing, I was sweating. I played in the jazz band in the morning and would sweat through my pits! I couldn't do anything about it.
I have seen Secret (?) has deodorant that is supposed to stop sweating...I don't know if it works.
I don't do pit stains anymore, but I still sweat a ton. My brothers are the same way and one of my son's inherited it from me as well.
It sucks.

B., I've always been a sweater. It still embarrasses me to this day, and I still have to be careful the materials that I wear, products I use, etc. I can't wear makeup because it makes my sweating worse, and I just sweat it off. I haven't found a single product to reduce the sweating, there are just things that make me more comfortable. I feel for her, I know how embarrassing sweat can be. :(

I am going to second the dri-fit materials - awesome.
Also, drinking tons of water and getting out and condintioning (running, endurance as you ponited out), also, make sure she is keeping her hair off face and neck. (I would assume she is, but if she is flying and doesn't tumble - they like to keep hair down and it can really add to the heat factor).

good luck with try outs:)

I know someone that uses Sweat Block. They are little wipes that you wipe under your pits after your shower once per week. Doesn't block sweat...just reduces it. Not sure if recommended for tween, but you can read the user reviews and see what you think. Worked VERY well for my friend. (No I'm not selling, nor do I have any association with SweatBlock LOL). Good luck!

I feel for her. I have always had the same problem and it runs in my family. I put out the same amount of effort and others are maybe perspiring, I'm running with sweat and have a tee shirt that is soaked. I really can't offer suggestions, although the dri-fit clothing might help. I remember the comments that I would get in gym class, etc.

Hugs.

She needs to be reassured that her sweating is a result of her hard work and that you are very proud of how hard she is trying. Even seasoned and trained athletes work up a good sweat when they are giving their best. Show her a you tube video of world class tennis players or gymnasts right after they compete, they are almost always toweling off sweat. I'm not sure what all they are working on in her class, but you want to avoid overly baggy tshirts, the coaches need to be able to spot correctly when tumbling or stunting. And beware the antiperspirant that claims to stop you from sweating (I think it called Certain Dri, I tried it last summer thanks to hot flashes and stopped when I noticed it was bleaching the color out of my shirts! Imagine what that would do to a preteens body. If she doesn't have an excessive sweating issue at any other time, her sweating will reduce as she improves her endurance. Good Luck!!

It may be hormonal, or it may be hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes the nerves to overproduce sweat from the glands. I have this, and it's awful, especially in the hot Florida summer. My hands sweat a lot, as do my armpits and feet. It's a pain. You can try Drysol, it's for excess sweating, and I have been told you can apply it to your feet as well. There are certain materials that make it worse or capture the sweat like polyester. Stick to cotton, which absorbs sweat well, and foot powders. Some makeup can clog your pores and cause you to sweat more, by the way. They use Botox to treat hand sweating, but I am not sure if this is her issue. She may also suffer from anxiety, which can cause an increase in sweating. If she is only sweating during practice, I wouldn't worry, I sweat pretty much 24-7 so it CAN be worse :(
