My little girl is turning 2, August 28th and we are wanting to do a party for her. The problem is, our house is just not suitable since we are having her friends (from our playgroup) come and so we need lots of room (we live in a townhome that is three levels and barely any backyard). I'm wanting to do something simple and I'm not very familiar with the parks in this area nor am I familiar with any venue locations since we did her party last year with just family at our home.
Does anyone know of any places in the area to have a 2 year olds party? Ideally I would love a park - but it's so hot at that time of year. All suggestions would be appreciated!
Kids Castle park in Highland Village-- its down Briarhill off of 407. There's lots of shade and tables, it's an awesome park. Start the party at 10 am, it won't be too hot yet... maybe serve popsicles too! Have fun.
I second the college street water park. You can find info at www.cityoflewisville.com It is a great spot for little kids, spray fountains, 0 entry levels and nothing is more than three feet deep. there are covered pavilions you can rent $100 or you can just show up and take a chance with getting a good spot not already rented.
Yes, late August can definitely be miserable outside... but it could be comfortable as well. If you plan a party at the park, and it looks like it's going to be too hot, you can always relocate it to a McDonalds, Chick-fil-A or Burger King play area, especially if you plan it for the day of her birthday (a Friday) when the big kids will be in school all day (even if you have some friends in preschool, most of them will get our early on Friday).
My personal recommendations would be Kids Kastle in Highland Village or Central Park in Lewisville. Both offer shade, picnic tables, and a pavilion.

If you choose to do an indoor party, we love Boomerangs for the little ones. Like Burb Mom said, you don't have to worry about the little ones as much. They offer weekday parties for 8 kids starting at $99.
I love the idea of Lewisville's Old Town Pool... Unfortunately, the last day of the season at the Old Town Pool is August 14th, so if you go with that option, you'd have to have the party quite early.

The other thing I have done and highly recommend (and will be writing about for Burb Mom in the next few weeks) are the city water/splash parks like the Old Town one in Lewisville and the adorable one in Roanoke next to their library and park which is perfect for little kids - that is where I had one party last year and we are doing it again this year so watch for pictures soon.

we JUST had my 2 yr olds b-day at kids kastle in Highland Village....worked PERFECTLY!!! :) Easy, CHEAP and FUN!!! :) we didn't even spend $50 on decorations/cake!!! The kids loved it and it wasn't that crowded either and the covered patio made it work even better! have fun and good luck!

You should absolutely do it at the Old Town Aquatics center on College St. in Lewsiville. It is super cheap to get in, you can take your own food, and it is small enough for that age group, while allowing for older siblings to have fun to. We do really love the park behind the civic center on the corner of Valley and Corporate, but like you said..it will be HOT!! Regardless of if you have a b-day party there, I do say at least head there this summer. I know one family who had the playgroup friends all meet at the play area in the mall for a 2nd birthday. If you go early in the day -- right when the mall opens -- it shouldn't be crowded. You can get a giant birthday cookie from the cookie place in the food court and put a couple of candles in it. Bring along some juice boxes and you've got a party. Best thing is that it's a free venue, and it's air conditioned!
We're having my son's 2nd birthday party next month at Central Park on Edmonds. It's very well shaded and has a big playground. There are 3 pavillions which you can rent. For one pavillion, it's a $50 deposit (that you get back unless somthing goes wrong of course) and only $25 rental fee. I love this park b/c of the shade!! I couldn't get the day I wanted, so call early (I called 3 weeks in advance, so probably 4-6 weeks ahead of time) if you want a specific day. The phone # is ###-###-#### for park reservations and info. (not just Central Park).
Another idea is to call the public pools in the area and find out how much it is to have a party there since it will be so hot. Have fun!!
I would definitely suggest Central Park on Edmonds. It has two play areas, walking trail, field for running, pavilion to rent for the party. Everyone could also bring a ride on toy as they have room near the big pavilion for that too. It is shaded so that should help with heat.
Hi T.. We are in the same boat. We live in Lewisville and our son will be three on Aug. 24th. This year we are going to have his party at the water park on College St. There is the bigger one by LHS but I don't care for that one near as much. It's way too crowded and more for older kids. The one on College St. is just perfect for toddlers and younger kids. Their party packages are very reasonable and you can bring in your own food. We are going to get pizza and do cake and ice cream. My only suggestion is to book the date now because they book for the whole summer usually within a week or two of opening for the season. Also, Central Park on Edmonds is great. They have 3 covered pavillions you can rent. The small ones are like 25.00 for the day and they have tons of play equipment. Plus, people are always renting bounce houses and having them set up there. Hope this helps!
For indoor play, there's Going Bonkers near Vista Ridge Mall. It's appropriate for all ages, from crawlers to adults. They have private party rooms and a cafe area. There's an arcade upstairs but the real fun is the two story tall maze of bouncy nets and slides. AND it's cheap admission for this age group.
My daughter's school - Prairie Trail Elementary in Flower Mound - is having their Carnival and Silent Auction next Friday (May 29th) from 5-9pm and I know that in the silent auction are some "parties". Some of the places are Win Kids and Excite!. Both of those are fun places for kids to have birthday parties - plus you might could get a good deal on them since they are in a silent auction. I love Central Park in Lewisville! It's on Edmunds st and it has tons of trees and eating areas! It is beautiful, with lots to play on, walking trails and an arbor. Free to use! Check into it!
We had our daughters party at Kids Kastle in Highland Village several years ago and it was great. You can reserve the pavillion through the City of Highland Village.
