Hi Moms,
My husband and I just bought a new Tempurpedic Cloud bed (which we both love!). However, I have started to break out in a rash all over my body (my chest, arms and legs). I am 4 months pregnant and am wondering if this is directly related to the bed or could it be that I'm extra sensitive from all the hormones going on in my body? Has anyone else had this experience? It's really itchy and annoying and I worry if it's chemicals in the foam bed, what is it doing to my unborn child? My husband and 2 year old son have not had any breakouts from sleeping on this bed.
Thanks for any advice!

What can I do next?

You might also check with your doctor to see if it could be puppps

I think it typically shows up later in pregnancy, but I don't know that that's always the case. I got it at about 38 weeks during my first pregnancy and I had what looked like hives from mid-thigh to the top of my head. My doctor had me take benedryl to help with the itching and in the off chance that I was having an allergic reaction to something.

Have you thought of bed bugs? Look it up on line and view pictures of rashes to see if yours matches anything. Good Luck.

Go to "alergybuyer.com" and get a mattress cover that is hypoalergenic and will keep any badness away from your skin. If it's a pregnancy related symptom, your ob should have an answer.

I had a HORRIBLE rash on my chest, arms, legs, back, belly, and scalp when I was pregnant! It was so bad my doctors biopsied it because they were so perplexed by it. They concluded in the end that it was some kind of eczema brought on by, yep, all those hormones. I hate to say this, but it didn't go away until after I delivered. However, I was able to get relief by using an olive oil soap (very moisturizing) and a tea tree oil ointment on the rash. You might need to try several things to find what works for you but I hope you find some relief!

Not to rule out the bed, but I had a very severe pregnancy rash around the same time. There is even a term for preg rash but I had a really severe case that stumped one Dr. Get to a good medical oriented Dermatologist (not someone who is primarily treating cosmetic stuff) I really liked Dr Lillian Soohoo in Mountain View. She also treated some ezcema issues that other Drs never got fully under control. Use your discretion. They might want you to use topical steroids during the third trimester if it persists. I would have it looked at sooner than later. I went nuts ruling out detergents etc and it got worse. Some of us are just blessed with this sensitivity when preg.

Chances are it's not the bed. Please see your OBGYN to determine of you have any of the childhood diseases like Fifths disease or something like eczema. Rashes are pretty common in pregnancy. Lots of women experience intense itching without a rash as their skin stretches as well. It could be the bed, but I'm betting it's probably related to one of the more common culprits during pregnancy. I'd look at the bed after you have ruled out all other medical conditions.

Not to be alarming, but also check out Fifths disease:
Fifth disease is a virus caused by the parvovirus B19. Although it can affect any one of any age, children under the age of 15 are most often infected with it. (Read more about fifth disease of children.) Symptoms of fifth disease usually start off as a mild cold. However, a few days after the cold goes away, a rash develops on the face that looks as though a person’s cheeks have been slapped. This rash then spreads to the rest of the body before clearing up within one to three weeks.

We have had a Tempurpedic bed before, during and after pregnancy. My daughter has one, too. They are supposed to 'prevent' dust mites and allergens, so I'm not quite sure if it would cause a rash. Are you using the same sheets/detergent/mattress covers as your other bed?

There may be latex in that mattress. I'm not 100% positive, but if you have a latex sensitivity (even if it's triggered by pregnancy) that might have something to do with it...

But I agree with a pp that suggested going to get checked for puppps and the other suggesting fifths disease.

Another I just thought of is scarlet fever (strep).

i believe its from pregnancy. With my first pregnancy i also broke out in hives but i was around 6 months pregnant. it just came from no where i had a rash all over my upper legs and my stomach and arms and nothing helped besides a bath to soak in. I believe it went away the next few days. Alot of pregnant woman break out in a rash when pregnant. Just try to take nice warm bathes which helped me.

I'm coming to this totally late, but we bought a new tempurpedic mattress in July when I was about six months pregnant and I had no rash or other problem with it except my arm fell asleep because I wasn't moving around any more when sleeping because it was so much more comfortable than our old bed! :)

Could it perhaps be a heat rash? Sometimes it seems like I'm sleeping a bit hotter on the Tempurpedic than I used to.

Hope you figure out what it is, and that it's not the bed!
