So my 9 month old has recently turned her head and will squish his lips together when baby food is offered to him. We started offering foods such as hummus, avocado, bannana, crackers, mashed potatoes, yogurt, and peas. However, even then he will turn his head. He loves juice, water, graham crackers, and of course nursing. We were up to 3 meals a day most days, and just nursing or a bottle for naptime and before bedtime. But, now we can barely get him to eat 1 spoonful of mashed potatoes. Any advice of what to offfer him and how would be great. P.S. I got a part-time flexible job, so I get to be home with my sweet boy more. Yeah!

What can I do next?

My 10 month old just went through this a few weeks ago because she was teething. I was worried too because she had really just started liking and accepting so many foods and, not realizing she was teething, I was dismayed at her wanting to breastfeed non stop again. You may want to consider this since he only wants liquids and harder crackers. My daughter's appetite worked itself back to where it was the next week. I read it is very common for teething babies to prefer liquids and especially the comfort of nursing during that time.
Oe other thing is that my daughter seems to go through phases of textures she likes, as well as a preference for warm or cold food. She stopped eating meats until they were nice and warm for her.

You might try something with more interest like the Gerber Graduates stews and such. Our little guy preferred those by far. They're mostly soft enough teeth aren't a prerequisite. He went pretty quickly from that kind of stuff to table food, even if we had to cook his a little longer to make it soft enough.

My dd did the same thing and we had to move to scrambled eggs, graduate puffs, graduate fruits, and cheerios. She would not go back to baby food. We even did deli meets that were very thin. I found out when she was a year that she had food allergies so the peds said that it could have been upsetting the tummy. My dd is still a very picky eater on top of food allergies. I hope this helps and gl.

My daughter never liked any baby food. So I nursed her for the first year and just added regular food starting at about 9 or 10 months. I have heard that when you give a baby a new food you need to give it to them each day for 3 days and if they still don't like it after 3 days then try something else. My daughter is still a picky eater but when she was just starting out on table foods she loved apple sauce, mashed potatoes, crackers, dry cereal, oatmeal and some soup. My doc. also told me that you have to look at the over all picture of how well they ate for a whole week. So after a week if you think back and feel that your baby ate pretty good than your doing a good job. He said that some days you will feel like your child ate nothing but crackers all day and thats ok because that will happen from time to time. So just be patient, your baby will come around and start eating more.
