A Gift I Have No Use For...

My BFF gave me a really nice cake carrier from World Market over a year ago. It was so nice of her but I just don't have any use for it and don't plan on using it anytime soon. What should I do? Keep it in case she asks if I still have it? Donate it? She is the type of person that is very personable and may ask about it. The reason I ask is because my daughter and I are starting to declutter areas around the house. So things that we don't use or need I like to donate or get rid of.
Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

If you are seriously considering getting rid of it, what *I* would do is bake her a really nice cake and then drop it off in the carrier to her...and then just don't ask for it back? Most times we tend to buy people gifts that *we* think are really neat...so maybe she would like it for herself?

If she gets it back to you, then I say donate it...you have used it and she has seen you use it, so the guilt (if you would have any) of getting rid of it should be erased.

I have lots of family in town, so I would probably ask around if any relatives would use it. And then let them know, I might like to borrow it back every once in a while..

I have actually purchased serving items and let the family know.. if they ever need to borrow the tray, bowl, vase, HUGE coolers.. etc. to let me know..

Well, you can send it to me or you can use it for other things! Is it glass, rubbermade, tin? Put towels in it, put silver in it, keep some of your odds and ends in it. Bathroom soaps? Or send it to me! My husband used my cake carrier to put oil in from the car...grrr...

Yes, regift it. Keep it in the original box. It's very nice to have a small space in one of your closets for gifts to give. Sometimes I pick up things for family and friends throughout the year and give them at Christmas. That way I don't have to do so much Christmas shopping.

The last thing you should do is give it back to your friend. Quite frankly, if I had a friend give me a gift and then ask me if I still have it over a year later, I would not appreciate that very much. That's not actually a "personable" friend. Don't let her hold that gift over your head, mom.

Donate it, re-gift it. How is she your BFF and doesn't know what to give you? Should she ask on it, just say it's put away or it broke. My youngest's godmother gives me gifts like that, things I would never have any use for. I never understand where she gets her ideas for gifts from. Very odd. I can always expect a gift that is a cross between Martha Stewart and Rachel Ray and I am not a foodie or baking queen.

If it's been over a year and she hasn't asked than it's probably safe to say she won't.

Donate it or bless someone else you know would like/use it.
No need to tell her. Most likely it won't come up in conversation.

IF she does ask (which she probably won't) just give a vague response. I wouldn't say I have it away.

There have been a couple of gifts that I have not used. I kept them for a few yrs, then, I ask friends if they would like to borrow...for good.

I gave a brownie pan to a friend to use. I never used it. She has had it for a yr ! I hope not to get it back ! When she came to pick it up, I told her that it has been in my garage for a long, long time and would love it if she would use it for a very, very long time because I hardly ever make brownies and the 1 pan I have is fine.

"Lend" it to a friend who might have a use for it. That way it can live at your friend's house but you can recall it if need be.

Give it away to someone she doesn't know or donate it. After a year, it's unlikely that she'll ask about it but if she does just say it's a lovely cake carrier and you appreciated her thoughtfulness. No need to lie. No need to be totally honest.

You know what? Be honest with her if she asks...I donated it. It was a lovely gift. Very thoughtful. I just wasn't using it.

If you are not using it, haven't used in a year...you aren't going to use it....donate it.

I'd tell her that you don't bake cakes and that you never plan on taking a cake to work or to a gathering so you don't need this gift. If she wants it back let her have it. Otherwise she knows that it's gone. She may have paid a lot of money for it and would be terribly hurt that you are getting rid of it.

I would at least tell her. But a cake carrier is something I use maybe once per year to take dessert to a work thing. It's so easy to carry and protect a cake or even something else.
