Fabric markers/paint so they can decorate their own pillow cases
My daughter did this at her 8 year old birthday party. I decorated one for her too and these are the cases she still uses every night. She is 13 today. :)
Hey Moms! We are having a sleep over party next weekend for 2 -8yr old girls and a 6 year old girl. We are planning on doing a bonfire with s'mores but we wanted some other fun ideas on how to keep them entertained. Any fun ideas?
Thanks all! Some great ideas here, my 6 year old is so excited!

Paint toes. Decorate wooden picture frames and take a picture to put in there. Pillow fight. Watch a movie like chip wrecked. Let them help make breakfast or put toppings on homemade pizza. Have fun!
When I was a kid, we had the best sleep overs.
My mom basically locked us out of the house until bedtime. Play outside. We always found something creative and fun to do. Made up our own games. We were fine.
The rate of violence against children has DECREASED 38% since the 1970s. It's actually more safe to play outside than when I was a kid. But if you're concerned, go out with them and find something "busy" to do. Such as pulling some weeds, read a book, knit, etc. Let the kids be kids.
My dd just had a friend overnight and they painted nails, played Wii, played hopscotch with chalk on the patio before it got dark, sang Karaoke at night and in the morning, and read books with flashlights before falling asleep
I think that you'll find they will entertain themselves, but you need to have choices for them
Have a few (no more than 3) movies available for them to watch.
Manicure supplies so they can go nails
Board games
Since your doing a campfire, you may want to have ideas for songs you could sing.
You also might want to consider a small craft project.
Have a craft something for them to do (make jewelry or something), bake cookies/ cupcakes in advance and let them decorate them for snack, turn on music and let them dance, have a movie for as the evening is wrapping up. Don't plan too much...have a couple activities available and they'll do the rest!
at that age they can all write. give them a piece of notebook paper and put a starting line on it. something like
The girls tiptoed past the...
and each kid writes til you say ok switch. the papers get folded along the line so you can't see what was written and handed to the next person. you should only be able to see one word. then they write on from there again til you say time. fold and pass on till all kids have written some of the story on each paper. then later that night when your at the bonfire read the stories. they will be funny and everyone will laugh.
bring a cd player out with some old campfire songs. if they don't know any teach them some.
OK, here are some ideas.................
scavenger hunt. (inside or outside, depending on your comfort level)
Do their nails and pedicures
Makeovers (obviously easy on the make up at that age)
Do their hair. (you could do hair wraps, curl it, straighten it, etc)
Board games
Movies (we like to watch Disney Princess Movies at sleepovers)
Frost and decorate cupcakes (make them ahead of time and let the kids frost and decorate them)
Make english muffin pizzas for dinner. (slice english muffins in half, top with pizza sauce from a jar and then add a dash of oregano and some shredded Mozz. Put in oven under broiler or just cook at like 350' until cheese is bubbly)
Arts and crafts ( make beaded bracelets or neaklaces (the dollar stores or craft stores have loads of cool beads that are pretty inexpensive. You can get the nylon or plastic type of cords to string them on there too)
Tye dye t shirts (have the girls bring old white t shirts and let them tye dye them. You can purchase inexpensive tye dye kits everywhere these days. Once you finish squirting the dye on the T shirts, just toss in the washing machene and wash them normally. You will have some pretty cool T shirts)
Get fabric markers and let the kids design their own t shirts. Again, they bring the shirt, and they can decorate it with the fabric markers that you supply. They sell them at lots of craft stores. They also sell puffy fabric paints, although I prefer the actual marker types since they are much less messy
Do bubbles (we do this outside AND inside. The bubbles always clean up no problem)
water balloon fight (obviously an outside game)
Have fun and let the kids come up with some fun ideas. I also like sidewalk chalk, and just playing with the hose when it's warm enough and still light enough outside. We also have a pool though, so we always have enough to do at sleepovers. We even like to read stories out loud to each other. You could even take turns telling a story that each child gets to add on to. You never know what you will end up with when you let them use their imaginations. Have fun!
