OK, so now that it is getting warmer ( warm enough for windows open) What do people do about leaving windows open in their children's rooms overnight. Now it is cool enough that I leave the window shut, but what about when it gets to 60-70 degree nights too warm for shut windows to cool for air conditioner. Am I paranoid because I am scared to leave my baby's window open for fear of someone climbing in it and me not hearing it? I know that is not common, but this is my first baby and I worry about those kind of things. I imagine that fear gets worse when the child is a little older and can get out of bed and push through the screen. Our windows are low to the floor. Should I just leave the window shut and a fan on? Any advice?
Personally I would NOT leave the windows open. I am paranoid enough with my nine month old son with the windows shut as tight as possible. Let alone leave them open. Memphis is not the safest place on earth either. I would just run the fan and if it starts to still stay hot even with the fan on, I would just go buy a little standup fan from Target or something. Just some advice....hope this helps.
We leave the windows open. Our windows are above child head level, so I don't worry about them climbing out.
DO NOT LEAVE THE WINDOW OPEN. Yes, we are being paranoid, but sometimes that is how you keep your kids safe. It is not worth the risk. Just put a fan on.
I also would not leave a window open. We either use the ac/ heat or nothing:)
It's the what if factor? If you leave the window open and something bad happens, then what? If it were me, I'd leave the window in that room closed.

Well, honestly I would not leave windows open in my kids rooms. I think a fan would be fine. I guess I am paranoid too but you just see to often where someone has snatched a child right out of their room. Yes, maybe more on tv shows then on the news but really, it can happen, why take chances?
My advice would be that depending on the part of town you live in, you might have a right to worry or not. If you're truly worried about it, set yourself up some sort of makeshift alarm that you would hear right inside the window.
If you are paranoid, at least you're in good company. I bought these window wedges for my boys' 2nd story level rooms. The wedges are very easy to install & remove in case of fire. I haven't seen them carried locally, but I bought them six months ago so selection may have changed. I'd leave the windows open at night especially since your son's room is on ground level. Soon it'll be too hot to consider such a thing; we should enjoy it while it lasts! If you're worried about a break-in (you're not the only one; knowing the chance is remote somehow doesn't help!), you could use a baby monitor or even get an alarm system installed. Hope this helps!

You're not being too paranoid. You have to think like that! I would not leave the window open at night in any of my children's rooms either. Turn the ceiling fan on low. You never know who could be lurking in your neighborhood.
Do what you feel comfortable with. If you feel worried about it, dont do it. Mother guilt is the worst! We personally have no problem leaving a window open...we leave ours open occasionally. There is a company Leaps and Bounds (leapsandbounds.com) that sells a really nice and sturdy window guard if you really want to leave the windows open and not worry about the baby getting out, or someone getting in.
I would not do it. I think it is too risky. I don't know how mobile your child is at eight months, but soon he will be able to crawl out of his bed and might get to the window. I just think a ceiling fan would be best. Plus the possible risk of someone breaking in is always scary. I know I wouldn't be able to sleep. I know that is a one in a million chance, but I am not willing to take it.
