My DIL is vegan and an animal rights activist. I got her some cute slippers and a locket this year. Last year it was a gift certificate to a health food store near her. It's hard to buy for them!
We do secret santa in my family as we have just gotten way too big to buy for everyone ($50 limit). I got my cousin who is an all natural type girl, uses all organic stuff, doesn't wear leather, is a vegetarian. Just wondering if you could give me some cool suggestions on what to get for her. I don't want to do the old stand by - candles, lotions. I want to get her something really thoughtful. She is a working mom and is in her mid 30's. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Even "hippies" need a break! What about a gift certificate for a massage? Two tickets to the movies and an offer to babysit? A gift certificate to a restaurant that you know she likes (ask her husband if you don't know).
I also like the idea of a kind of "funky" piece of jewelry or art for her house. Try etsy.com - there are a million things out there.
Good luck!
Perhaps a subscription to Sun magazine and/or adbusters.
Does she wear jewelry? One of my favorite eco jewelry brands, is here:

You can also go the charity route. This charity teaches woman in Uganda how to make Jewelry and body care, to create business and fight poverty. Each purchase helps support that.

Uncommon Goods has some really great, unique gifts, much of which are earth friendly.
You can google organic clothing and find online sites...
You might want to check out EcoPlum. They have handbags, jewelery and clothing. http://www.ecoplum.com/direct/
http://www.etsy.com/ has some great gift ideas!!
Check out garnethill.com gaiam.com, realgoods.com or localharvest.org. What about a cooking class or some cool bamboo utensils or serving bowls, or maybe a felted purse? Also, I find Penzeys Spices (penzeys.com) invaluable as I cook all my organic goodies. Although I try to make all organic choices, Penzeys is an exception.
I have an amazing all hemp purse by Earth Diva that I love. It was $45 and they have lots of styles and colors. We hippie chicks still like to feel girly and still like the standard "feminine" gifts, we just like them au naturelle!
On another note, does she love a particular band? I always love to buy music memorabilia for the hippies in my life. Most feel very passionate about who/what they love.
Good luck, shopping for hippies is SO fun! :)
I don't know but it sounds like an excellent opportunity to hit up your high end health food store!
Here where I live we have a "Huckleberry's" and oh my goodness, is that store cool! I love it!
I would be too tempted to go down the make-up/lip gloss section and buy her some local natural and organic girlie type stuff!
That or fuzzy comfy socks...I know that might sound lame but my sister and I LOVE a good pair of comfy cozy crazy socks! :)
How about an article of clothing made from an organic or sustainable fabric? There are some cool t-shirts out there (I really wish I could remember the website), but maybe you could google it...
What about a gift card to Origins? They are all natural and if she is a working mom, it might be nice for her to splurge on something to pamper herself! Merry Christmas!
have you tried sunfoods.com it's run by David Wolfe (raw foodist, lecturer, etc) he s written many books, one that I found interesting was called, eating for beauty.. it was interesting and discussed various foods and herbs that contribute to one's wellbeing and beauty.. she might enjoy that..
also.. there is a site called, organicdivas.com (if you decide to go the makeup and lotion route) what's good about this site is the list all the products ingredients..
good luck
