Go to Billings, MT for anything serious. Small towns are not the best place to get important answers. My husband and I have visited the Billings Clinic several times.
My sisters son ( almost 6 months old ) is a fussy baby, with earaches etc. He has tubes and has been recently cleared of ALL colds infection etc. But any time he burps, hiccups, or passes gas...he screams as if he is in pain...has anyone heard of this before? His DR. says he is just a bit dehydrated and to give him pedialyte, but it doesnt seem to be working. Is he just overly spoiled? and doesnt like to feel anything abnormal? help or suggestions?
Thanks to everyone who responded... I will pass on the suggestions, as for being spoiled, I have to say he is...he has 6 brothers and sisters, and doesnt want for anything, its actually quite comical to see a 6 month old thrwo a temper tantrum...but I do believe this is more than a fit, as it only happens when he is gassy. Thanks agaiN! :)

He might have cholic (not sure how to spell it). Try mycolin drops. You can pick them up at any drug store.
M.,
The poor thing is in pain and something is wrong! He can not express himself anyother way. He needs help and not from the dr. he is currently seeing.
Good luck,

If his system has very recently been cleared, he may still be anticipating pain everytime he burps and hiccups. It may take him a few days to realize that he's not going to hurt after he does those things. On the other hand, if he's just had tubes put in, he may still be a little sore from that as well. Is it possible he may be teething, too?
Sounds like reflux to me. It's worth checking into. Zantac is a quick cure, although you have to get it from a doctor since it's not available in baby strengths. GL
FYI - a six month can't be spoiled enough. Considering they can't really communicate other than crying, he must be trying to tell his Mama something. Maybe she needs a 2nd medical opinion.
I highly reccomend using Baby Bliss-gripe water, and starting probiotics. The gripe water helps with the gas, bloting, etc. and the probiotics helps with the digestive system. My cousin who is an eastern medicine licenced doctor has put my 8 month old on the probiotics for his yeast and exema and it seems to be helping a lot. It seems to have a lot of healthful benifits. You can purchase both at Wild Oats. I like Baby Bliss for the gripe water better than Little Noseys because it doesn't have to be refriderated so you can keep it in your diaper bag. I don't know what could be causing the pain. But at least this way you can hopefully help with the gas, etc.
And I don't care what anyone says, you can not spoil a 6 month old. Something is going on there.
Good luck!!
I don't think a 6 month old can be spoiled, and if an infant cries, esp. in pain, then something is not right. Sounds to me like he may have acid reflux (even if he doesn't spit up, it can be silent reflux.) I would recommend seeing a pediatric gasrtoenterologist (GI) If your sister is in Utah as well, I'd recommend Dr. Louis Mizel in Cottonwood. I can't say enough good things about him. He was wonderful all around with us and our son, who is 2 and has GERD.
My son is 8 months old and nothing calms him better than being bounced lightly on his daddy's knee. He's had alot of stomach issues and nothing seems to do the trick quite like that. He has fallen fast asleep that way many times. Also, I don't know your sleeping arrangements but for us, our son sleeps in bed with us and he likes to be propped up on a pillow when he sleeps it really seems to help. I probably wouldn't suggest it if your not going to be right there with him though. Good luck!!
You're a mother and you ask if a 6 month old is spoiled??? Come on now. I hope you haven't opened your mouth to your sister, new moms need support.
