Have you checked out Jack's Place.Oakland University?.. they have a lot of activities.. perhaps he'd find some friend's there as well?
My 10 year old son has Aspergers- He is able to excel in the classroom, but has a hard time making friends. To compound this difficulty, we are new to the area and the closest friends/family we have are 5 hours away. I am trying to find someone else with a child that might want to connect. My son's interests are Bionicles, Legos, Star Wars and Transformers. Any one else in Farmington area have a 8 - 12 year old Aspie that needs a friend to play with?

Hi H.,
My son has Sotos-like Syndrome and Aspergers.. He is 11.5, we're in Garden City. I have gotten my son involved with programs out here that allow him to integrate with people of all abilities <depending on the event>. My son has been in Cub Scouts, he is now in Boy Scouts with "normal" functioning boys, I also have him involved in therapeutic recreation programs in the city/county..<they are in your city park and rec, but you can attend any functions in the county>, therapeutic horseback riding, all kinds of things. We also work in greyhound adoption and my son attends those functions too.
Your welcome to contact me privately if you have any questions about the programs and stuff.

H.,
I read the previous comment about jack's Place whch will be a fabulous resource, but now its part of OU Cares (through Oakland University) here is a weblink for you. www.oakland.edu/oucares
Good luck

I have a 9yr AS son- same as you- excels at school, harder time with friends. We live in Oak Park. My son is into pokemon, Chaos cards and Webkins right now, so the obsessions, I mean interests, lol might be a challenge. We have an AS friend in Troy who is 11 and LOVES Star Wars, so maybe that could all work out. I will email you my contact info in a private message.

PS We have a fabulous therapist in Farmington who works with kids on the spectrum- she has been a great help with social skills! I can pass on her info if you like.
