This may not answer your question, but I am an avid scrapbooker and have made baby books (as well as chronicled every year thereafter) for both of my girls. Here's what worked for me. I take lots of pictures of my girls - not just on big occasions, but doing the everyday things that they like to do. When they were babies, I took pictures of them during their happy moments (in the stroller on a walk, or in the high chair being fed oatmeal, or on a blanket on the floor reaching for the cat's tail) and also during their unhappy moments (one of my daughters hated wearing a hat, so I took a picture of her screaming and trying to pull her hat off). Anyhow, when you upload your pictures into your computer, if you're using a program like iPhoto or the one from Creative Memories or whatever, there is usually room for you to label the photo or write notes about it. So you just write,"Corinne hated wearing hats, even though she was totally bald and it was a cold winter." Then when you go to make a baby book or scrapbook, you have all the cute stories right there, and all you have to do is write them down!
For me at least, this has been a really helpful way of hanging onto all those memories until I get them into a scrapbook (let's face it, as moms, we don't have tons of time to scrapbook, and it's easy to forget all the stories!). I have found it to be much more relevant to show a picture of baby trying to sit up by herself for the first time and then writing something like, "Isabelle is almost ready to sit up by herself at 6 months old!" - rather than just filling out on a form "12/14/05 - Isabelle sits up, 6/1/06 - Isabelle walks." As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!
As your baby gets older, you'll find that having a record in photos with stories will mean so much to them! My girls are always pulling their scrapbooks down off the shelf and reading them. They love that they are the star of a story and they love reading and re-reading about all the funny things they did when they were babies.
Have fun!!
