My 4 month old is doing that but he'll sometimes sleep through the night, try to hold on it does get better.
I like to start off by says I love being a part of this site. I get alot of useful information from all of you and I thank you all deeply. My question this time is: My second son, Connor, is 1 1/2 months old, and it seems he hardly ever sleeps. When he does he will, out of no where, start screaming, then go right back to sleep. I don't understand why he does this. Has anyone gone through this? Should I be worried? I have heard about children having night terrors. Are there any signs that would suggest if he will have them? His 2 month check up is June 5, but I'm a little concerned now. Again, I had no problem with my first son, Dylan, doing this. And it seems, Connor fights sleep as if he is going to miss something, but I thought only older babies/children do this. Please help!! I have tried gas drops, but it doesn't seem to do much good. I know not getting any sleep is part of motherhood, but its worse this go around.

My twin boys were exactly the same way! When we started them on reflux medication at 2 months it helped some, but I think they mostly had to outgrow it. By 3 months it was improving and by 4 they were sleeping much better. They still (at almost 8 months) always fight sleep...just like you said, from the day they were born they acted as if they were going to miss something. But once they fall asleep they sleep soundly now.
Hi, from everything that i have read babies dont get night terrors. Night terrors are suppused to start if they do at all when they are two or so. I thought at first by reading that your baby was having gas pain, but if you are giving him the gas drops those should be stoping it. Have you noticed if before he does this he is having difficulty breathing. My son has allergies and probable asthma and he would suddenly wake up like that crying just for a min and go back to sleep and he was doing this becuase he was having congestion and stuffiness in his nose, and alot of saliva in his mouth. So when he was sleeping he would "loose" his breath for a moment.
I had this same problem for the first 3 months of my daughter's life. My ped brushed it off at first but I took the initiative to change her formula that she was getting to supplement breatfeeding after I completely changed my diet. I put her on Enfamil Gentlease and kept using the gas drops and things changed literally overnight! Talk to your ped first of course. I just couldn't get through to mine even though he has since apologized. I know how miserable you and your baby must be. Call your ped first thing Mon!
i have never dealt with this. if colic is hte problem try hyland's colic tablets. they are a homeopathic remedy so they are 100% safe, these saved me when my daughter had colic. definately talk to your doctor about it. good luck and i hope you get it figured out.
Please clarify his total months and years in age...thanks. I should be able to help you out .
Is he taking naps? When does he go down for the evening and when does he wake up in the morning.
Hi, my daughter went through the same thing. Beginning at about 3 weeks old. First I had to adjust her formula as I could not breastfeed. Her peditrician told us that it was gastro reflux and put her on previcid (Please pardon my spelling, it has been a long day). Anyway, there was no testing involved but it worked wonders for her. Also, make sure the bottles are the right ones for your son. I hope this helps. Oh, she only had to take the medicine until she was about 6 months old, this is something they outgrow fairly rapidly.

I don't want to scare you in any way, but if I were you, I'd get your pediatrician to order a CT scan. It wouldn't hurt. My baby was 5 months old when she had to have emergency brain surgery due to a bleeding AVM (arterio veineous malformation) that we had no previous idea about. A CT scan would find anything like that in his brain. Like I said, I don't want to scare you, but I would have that CT scan done in a heart beat if I would have known what was going on in my daughter's head as a baby. She is doing really well now, with physical therapy, and thriving as a 1 year old - we were lucky. I hope your son doesn't have night terrors, too-in fact, I hope NOTHING is wrong with him at all-maybe it's just a phase! Good luck!
Hi A.,first let me start out by telling you as i do everyone,i always type in all caps. I have nerve damage and it is just easier for me,i'm not yelling!with that said.maybe he has some extra gas that he isn't releasing during burping. Maybe you could try some of the infant gas drops just before bedtime to just see if it will work. I don't think that it would hurt him,i used them quiet frequently with my second child and she never oded on them!!lol!!j/k!!but seriously!!he may just have a gas pain hit him and then when it passes he goes right back off to sleep. And if sleeping at night is the problem, then i'd try to keep him as active and awake as long as possible during the day. And only allow for an early morning nap. That is how i did my daughter and it really worked out well for us!!good luck to you and your new little family and my prayers are with you!because i've been there and i'm glad that mine are a little older but i'd cherish them while they are so small because time seems to fly by!!sincerely,T.
As your first child had no problems, my first thought would be that he has colic, or some other type of digestive problem. I would make any appointment with you doc as soon as you can get him in. If you can't get one with your ped then find one you can get in. Your poor little baby should not have to suffer until his check up. It sounds like gas to me, but a docs opinion is best. I would try mylicon drops asap, until you can find a more concrete answer. My twins both had colic from about 8 weeks to 4 months, and the mylicon drops helped a good deal.
Hi A.,
Since you said he's not quite 2 months old and you've tried Mylicon gas drops, it sounds like it could be a reflux problem. I went through it with my second son also. I would give him additional gas drops when he woke up, but it didn't always do it. They put him on something like Zantac, and it helped a lot. Call your doctor's nurse and see what he/she says. They may wnat to see him.
They also told me to let him sleep in a more upright position, like in his car seat, to help with the reflux.
Good luck!!
My son does the same thing even at almost 5.5 months. Dr diagnosed him with sleep inertia. Google search it, it might answer some of your questions. I just go in an soothe him either by talking softly to him or picking him up and 'dancing' with him until he calms down. It was described to me as his body is startled awake and his brain is still in groggy, sleep mode. Therefore causing the little one to feel insecure and somewhat scared. I have a friend whos son still wakes this way every now and then and he is almost 3 years old. Hope this helps!

He is too Y. yet to be having night terrors, but it could be gas. Mylicon has worked wonders in our house!! Congratulations and good luck!!
Our son did suffer from night terrors. It is not an easy thing to deal with. Here's how you know. When he scream does her cry worse if you touch him? Our ped. said kids dont usually get them until much later. Our son started at 4 months just screaming uncontrolably for no reason at night. When you touched him he screamed louder and became more hysterical. Our ped said to just talk him out of his dreams lightly without touching him. Literally just softely talk to him saying things like "mommy's here, it will be over soon mommy's here" The point is not to wake him but to help guide him out of the "zone" he's in. We were told to never wake him or pick him up.
If this doesnt sound like what your son is doing then consider a food allergy. Our daughter cried for no reason but it wasnt the same kind of crying. Turns out it was stomach cramps from a milk allergy. Her stomach would tighten considerable when she did it and she also spit up a lot. She was nursed so I had to take all allergens out of my diet and it worked. She had no further problems after that.
My son, also named Connor, did not start to sleep until he was around 14 weeks old. He has reflux and has been on medication for it since 4 weeks. However his problem was not the reflux he had a milk allergy. Does your son spit up alot or just cry out in his sleep? Does he cry after eating or during eating? I would talk to your Ped. I know how you feel and it is rough not getting any sleep. Good Luck!
my daughter naomi went through the same thing and it was reflux! i never thought that a baby could have reflux like that but it can happen. try telling your pediatrician that you would like to try some zantac. it does not taste good but it works. also try putting the mattress up on an incline where his head goes. if he isn't spitting up it is called silent relfux. hope you can get some sleep soon!
