Mine does the same thing, now 13 months old. I have the same high chair. Remove the tray when feeding and she may like that. Use the tray, and put some puffs or cherrios on it and he/she will start to like it. Also, fruits and veg as he/she gets older. Sometimes they have to be in the mood to eat, so try tweeking the times too. She also like to play with the tray after, so I let her. Good luck, its always something!

My daughter who is now one did not like her highchair either. So I returned it due to a small space and bought a booster sit that attaches to the dining room chair. It has a tray and Maya loves it

I fed my lil guy in his carrier carseat for months, I too was limited on space...and I feel it's more important what they eat, not where they eat :) she may like it later, but if not...so be it.

Dear N.,

I think the fact that she is crying says she is not comfortable for right now. If she is not sitting up yet perhaps her back muscles are not strong enough and putting her in the high chair is just not comfortable. There are no set rules as to when a child has to go into a high chair and I think if she is comfortable for right now let her eat in her exersaucer. I think once you begin introducing finger foods it will be a good idea to try the high chair again because feeding herself may be a distraction to the chair and perhaps she will enjoy her chair more. Have you tried putting her in with toys in front of her at first and then feeding her? Maybe you can distract her that way. I think she is old enough to start introducing puffs if you break them in half. I gave my kids cheerios at this age. Just watching them try to pick them up and get them to their mouth was fun to watch. It also helps to develop their hand and eye coordination. Good Luck!!!

My daughter HATED her highchair too. We fed her in her baby swing (the portable kind) or we held her in our lap to feed her. Ultimately, we put her in one of those booster seats that strap onto the chair when she was about 1. I think she sat in the high chair only once or twice! One thing you could do is try putting her in the high chair, but just pulling it up to the table, so she feels like she's eating at the table with you... But that might be later when she's feeding herself. For now, it's fine to keep feeding her in the stoller or swing... You gotta do what you gotta do, you know?!!

My daughter hates her high chair as well. I did find that she liked sitting at the table with us instead. I have one of the booster seats with a tray on it. (I don't use the tray) It straps to the chair and I buckle her in and she is much happier in this seat than the high chair!

My baby didn't really like the highchair the first time i put him in it. i give my baby his plastic keys or a teether to play with in the highchair while i'm preparing his food, or to entertain him between bites, or when he is done eating and i'm not ready to take him out yet and he is happy.

You could try something slightly different - like putting the high chair on the floor, or leave the tray off and slide the high chair up to the table. You never know what is making her uneasy.

My daughter didn't like the high chair either. Don't sweat it! Feed her where she'll eat...exersaucer, picnics on the floor, on your lap...

Do her feet rest on something when she is in the high chair? If not, they say that can make them uncomfortable. We have a Svan (I think that's what it's called) that has a large foot rest that is adjustable and our child seems to like it.

hey N.,
don't stress too much.. my baby too ate his first month or two at 7 or 8 months in either the exersaucer on my lap or sometimes we just sat on the floor together... now he does fine in the chair,i find though, i have to immediately have food for him going in even if it's some cheerios ... sometimes he'll fuss because he's just hungry... don't worry she'll ease into the chair when she's ready! good luck with your cutie! oh and that chair is awesome, it never leaves my car!!!i take it everywhere!
