I have heard of people sending a thank you gift to the OB/GYN’s office after the baby is born. Did anyone do that? Or is it just appropriate to send a birth announcement…or send nothing? Just wanted to see what others out there have done.
I did send a tray of danishes to the office to thank my O.B. She came in to deliver my baby even though she wasn't the OB on call that night. She promised me early on in the pregnancy that she would do that because we had a very good rapport. However, I don't think it is necessary because it is their job and you are paying the big bucks for it.

I had my kids at a birthing center and most of the time, we just sent a photo of the baby along with a card that they would put on the walls! You don't have to do anything big, just a simple thank you is fine. There might be a rule in some book somewhere, but I've never read it!
I didn't send anything. I never heard of people doing that, but I am sure it's not a big deal either way.
wow-a gift? Aren't they getting paid enough? :)
I would say a picture or an announcement is just fine! And if you especially loved your OB--maybe a thank you card. I know my OB has his walls covered with pictures of all the babies he's delivered, so I just brought them one at my 6 week check up.

Regarding your question, I believe that you should do whatever your heart tells you to do. I don't believe that you should follow a certain etiquette if it is on your heart to let someone know how much you appreciate them. So many professionals rarely receive a gesture of thanks no matter what their services or care to you or loved ones might be.
For me personally, my daughter was a fertility baby and when I finally did get pregnant, at 9 and 1/2 weeks I hemorrhaged, lost 4 units of blood, developed multiple thecolutian cysts in both of my ovaries. I great deal to the story, but God saw us through everything and I delivered her by C-section when most of the doctors never believed that I would make it another week. Through that experience and so many people who had come into my life throughout this process, I just wanted them to know how grateful and blessed I was to have such wonderful people all around me doing everything humanly possible to bring my sweet baby girl into the world.
So, I say that whatever you feel to do or if you don't think its necessary, it is your choice and you should just do what you think is best and fits your situation. I don't think you should go by any "rules of proper etiquette", follow your heart and create your own rules. Hope this helps you and again a great big Congrats to you !

Never heard of sending a gift, but I guess it depends on how close you were w/ ur OB. I simply sent a birth announcement and a letter telling her how much I appreciated her and everything she had done for me. I think that probably ment more to her than a gift...
A gift? I send a Christmas card, but a gift? I wrote them a nice non-bouncing check. Gift enough.
People at my ob/gyn's practice do send a gift. They most definitely send a thank you card and/or announcement. I sent my doc a gift that she could use or enjoy in her spare time. Nice tea, a gift certificate to a book store and some nice chocolates. They are so busy delivering our babies that I wanter her to have something to enjoy when she had time off. I guess it depends on your relationship with your doc too. No matter how much they get paid I think everyone wants to feel appreciated. And after all didn't your doc just help you with the greatest gift you'll ever have? Congratulations.

I sent a birth announcement w/ picture to the OBGYN's office. They have a huge bulletin board that they display all the ones they receive. I thanked the doctors and nurses for all they did. If you want to spend more $$, you could send something to the office as a whole or just to the doc. Something nice for the holiday season...
I went to a practice that had 3-4 doctors and 2 midwives. I saw one midwift throughtout my pregnancy and she was the one who delivered my son. After the delivery was over, I had a small gift for her and then when I went for my postpartum delivery I gave her an announcement. I think it's more of what you want to do. I don't think they really expect anything. Do what you feel is best. :)
I personally sent in a baby announcement, and a picture of the doctor holding our baby for the last one...but if you REALLY liked your Ob, I would send something nice....
My middle child--I loved her so much, I sent the above, and also a bouquet of flowers thanking her for such a great job...I actually send this to her every year on his b-day--ok, I really liked her!
i gave a picture of my babies to my ob when i went into the office for my 6 wk post partum check up. his office had a huge billboard in the hall full of pics and the announcements. and in every exam room he had a small billboard that was also full of pictures of all his patients babies.
