Baby Ever Been on Cefprozil?

Has anyone ever had to put their baby on the antibiotic cefprozil? My 6 1/2 month old daughter has been on it for about 10 days (today is the last dose). Prior to starting the meds. she wasn't eating as much as usual and I put it off to not feeling well. However, she's still not eating as much formula as she was and I'm thinking she should be better by now. I know the antibiotic has a side effect of nausea so I'm wondering if it's effecting her appetite. Anyone have any experiences with this med? Also, she's eating a wide variety of baby foods 3x/day now. Is it possible she's not wanting as much formula b/c she's into the baby foods? Everything I've read says she should be eating the same amount of formula and the baby food should be in addition. Thanks!

I don't know about the cefprozil, but my daughter is 7 months and is down almost a complete bottle due to the baby food. Everything I read said she should eat the same amount and add the baby food as you said, but when I asked my pediatrician, she said it was completely normal. Good luck! Hope this helped a little and hope your little one is doing better!

Hi J.
Cefprozil or cefzil does have decreased appetite, stomache upset and diarrhea as side effects but LESS than some of the other antibiotics like amoxicillin and augmentin.
However, why was she placed on it? Did she have an ear infection? Or some other reason which may also have decreased appetite as part of the illness.
Also, yes once eating baby foods well, there is a decrease in milk intake. Your best bet is to take her in for her six month well check, if not already done, and her pediatrician will have her weighed and be able to tell you if her weight gain is appropiate.
Hope this helps.

My daughter has never been on cefprozil but when they start eating baby food they start drinking less formula. The formula is a form of food and if your daughter is already full from the baby food she's not going to want as much formula because it'll just make her even more full. My daughter was bf so she stopped nursing as much, but it's the same thing. Her doctor told me it's just what happens. If you think something is wrong call her doctor, at least your mind would be at ease then. Hope this helps.

I am not sure about that specific antibiotic but my daugther has been on numerous medicines thanks to daycare. once she started baby food she cut her bottles back significantly. Baby food fills them up so they shouldn't need to drink as much formula or breast milk as before. None of the medicine my daughter was on caused her to eat less. Good luck!
